Solitaire Locking Up

My Solitaire is approximately 3 years old and has never yieled any problems but today for some reason, burning a 2 min. program was problematic. It basically seemed to lock up in the "Render Film, film 1of 1 mode. After waiting 6 mins. I had to manually turn off the power.

I waited approx. 30 seconds and energised the Solitaire again. I saw an on-screen pop up / warning box (indicating that I had not shut down properly etc.), and proceeded to try to burn a DVD again. This time "the burn" worked perfectly.

So, I have 2 questions. Does anyone have any ideas about what could cause a "lock up"?
Secondly, is it harmful to cut the power to the Solitaire?

I'm just hopeful that this is not an indicator of an internal malfunction. I'd appreciate any comments.

Bill,

Check out the posting about a similar problem from me to a new visitor in the message about a prestige locking up just below. Then read Tims posting just below mine.

Hi Jim / Tim (if you see this),

OK, your responce sheds some light on the possible causes etc. but is there a safer way to turn off the Solitaire without pulling the plug. Just to reiterate, my lock up rendered the ON / OFF / POWER button (on the front of the Sol.) inoperable.

I apologize for this late responce and as always really appreciate your feed back. Thanks so much.

Bill,

When my Solitaire locks up (fortunately not often) either pressing and holding the on/off button usually turns it off. Also control/alt/delete shuts it down as well. Pull the plug as a last resort.

I agree with Bob, pulling the plug should be the action of last resort.

With a lock up the first thing I try is the three finger salute on the keyboard (Control key, Alt key & Delete key).

Often that does not work though.

Holding the Power button for an extended time (three to five seconds) pretty much always works if the three finger salute does not.
