S4K Pro lockup

I am in the middle of a project.I pPut on the machine, the hourglass spins but no action on images or anything. Ultimately I pull the plug, since pressing the on/off switch does nothing. I plug in the power cord and the light goes on in the window for a while and then goes dark. Still nothing when I press the on/off switch.

What else can I do?

Phil,

Quit pulling the plug when it freezes.

The S4P really hates that and can go on strike for hours and occasionally even days after doing that.

Use the Forced Power down method of pressing the Power button and the Ok button at the same time for a couple of seconds.

At this point for your current pouting S4P I would suggest pulling the plug (power is already off), disconnect all other connections (USB, firewire, video, audio, monitor) (watch out for those deceptively sharp heat sink fins) for a minimum of an hour and then connect up everything, power cord last and see if that satisfies the S4P.

Thanks Tim,
I did all that as you suggested and it worked. Actually, I did it and it worked before I read your response this morning. Now I know I did the right thing after doing the wrong thing. ;-)

Where is the OK button you refer to? As I said, nothing was reacting on the screen.

Phil,

I am sorry, thought you had a S4P for some reason.

With the Renommee you use a prolonged hold on the Power button, like four, five seconds will cause a forced power down without having to resort to the plug.

Another method is the three finger salute on the keyboard (Alt, Control and Delete keys at the same time), but that method won't work if the keyboard is part of the lock up.

Worth trying first as it is a more soft command power down.

When that does not work I suggest using the prolonged Power button holding in.

Phil,

There are eight buttons on the front of the unit and from left to right they are" Menu, <,>,^,v,OK,^ and the Power button.

You hold the OK and Power button in for three to four seconds and the front LED will briefly state Powering Off and then Force Power Off and shut down.

It will also scold you as always when you next power back up. LOL

Thank you. It goes to show I did not look closely at the buttons, yet I have pushed the eject button for DVDs many, many times.
