No Sound

I'm working on a 19 pieces Dance Project. Everything is ok, so I made a DVD, as usual. Mid-point on #10 audio is gone all the way to #19. This is the first time I've encountered this problem. I've checked to make sure everything is rendered and it was...so, I made another DVD. Same thing! Gone back, removed all titles, transitions and all affected scenes on storyboard...replaced and rendered...ad made a DVD...Same thing...same spot from mid-point #10 all the way to #19.

What else can I do to correct this problem?

Thanks!

Hi Lex

Have you tried to make a scene of the whole project and move it to a different project using the clipboard and run NOP over it. This is what I would try there might be a little spot on the harddrive that makes it faulty.

This is what I would try.

Hi Lex,

Also, make sure in the Audio menu none of it is overmodulated in red (lower dB level for any tracks that go into the red.

Also, as the transcoding (Add Film) seems to boost the audio a bit you might want to try bringing the whole Storyboard down 3dB.

If it's a corruption of the OS or Arabesk you could try a non-destructive install of the OS as I had one gentlemen recently find that effective in a similar situation as yours (first time I know of that a non-destructive install of the same OS that did anything worthwhile with a bug).

Lastly, you could try uninstalling Arabesk and then reinstalling it.

I suggest using Archive in the Menu and Chapter Menu places before any of these, including the make a Scene and use that to minimize your having to rebuild the Menu systems.

Just got done making a scene, moving to another project, applied NOP, made a DVD...still the same. I will now try to reinstall SE-8 and Arabesk. :? 8-)

Thanks!

Tim, Is deleting SE-8 and Arabesk 4 the same as uninstalling? That's what I did...and, of course, I had to enter the poper code to activate again. Everything lloked ok so I made a DVD...same thing, same spot to the end.
What else can I do? I will switch to the other drive and start from scratch...

Hi Lex

Before you start from scrach try to run it out of your machine back to DV tape it might work and save you a lot of work. I have done that before when I had a corrupt project and it saved me a lot of time editing it all back together. Just a thought !!

I've been editing since it was OS-1.5...this is the first time I'm really having so much problem and it really confuses me a lot....'coz, when I play it alll from the storyboard everything is ok. The only other thing I haven't done is trimming a few frames front and back or beginning and end...but, would this have anything to do with this corruption?

So, are you saying to just output to DV and back and make a DVD? I can do that.

Thanks again!

Hi Lex

I thought you were going to do a full destuctive install thats why I said to back it up to tape. You can than put the footage back into your machine and just split up the footage including transitions for DVD transfer. How long ago did you do a full destructive install ? Some times (once a year) it would be good to clear the whole system with all the footage and do a new install off OS and software so I have been tould by manny users. Maybee just re edit 5 miutes of footage before and after the stuff up could do the job as usualy when it goes wrong it is on a particulair spot. I had finished a whole wedding ( with a 3 camera ceremony edited) and my S4000 Pro stuffed up when I put the music in so I saved the footage to DV tape and loaded it in after a full destuctive install and I only spend a few hours on it to finish the wedding. When you have recorded it back to DV just check that the sound is there, there will be furtualy no quality loss doing it this way.

PS. Don't hit the auto split button after you have recorded it back in just manualy split it up into the chapter points you want on your DVD much easier to make chapters.

Good luck :)

I've switched to the other drive and no problem here :) :) I'm not quite ready for a destructive install...@ 88% with 16 projects. I'll have to do this later.
Thank you for your support...I appreciate it very much 8-) :)

So Lex, you went out to tape and back into the second drive and burned the DVD successfully with full audio?

If so, I would input the tape into the original drive to a different project and burn a DVD and see if that works as well.

If it does, I would Clipboard the video from the successful Project into the problem Project and again burn a DVD and see it works or does not.

Between these you will know whether it's a corruption in the original Storyboard or Project or OS.

If it's the Project you know to stay out of that Project until you can do a full destructive install to fix it.

When this happens (has, but only very occasionally) I relabel that Project "STAY OUT!".

If the problem manifests in the other Project too you know it's the OS and should start getting your Projects out to tape, Disk Transfer or Hard drive backup ASAP and then do a full, destructive install.

Once a Project or OS corrupts it does not usually get better, but rather continues to get worse, many times significantly, catastrophically worse.
