Well, I really did it this time. I have a Kron Plus with 2 drives - one with SE 7 and one with SE 8. Tried to update the drive with SE 7 to 8.1. When it asked me for the unlock code I just hit OK without entering anything because I thought it was somewhere on a ROM chip on the motherboard.
Well, I guess it didn’t like that…..gave me one of those “Oh yeah?” looks that computers are really good at…..and went into loop mode where you choose the language, choose the type of install, watch the progress bar go about 40 percent across, and then watch it reboot and go through the whole cycle again. Even tried re-installing SE 7 from a Smart Card and it wouldn't change the cycle.
I have 2 hard drives in the Kron but I don’t really want to erase the other one and/or mess that up too.

Re: OS Update Failure
Craig, I also have a Kron+ and have encountered the same “loop” you experienced when trying to install a new drive. Evidently the Kron is very particular about the sequence of events and if it isn’t perfect, it does seem to get upset and lock into a loop.
As you may know, Drive 0 is MASTER and is the 1st connection from the mother board.
Drive 1 is SLAVE and is the last connection.
I’m wondering if you are currently able to even get the Kron to “see” the other drive – the one that was already running SE 8. You probably cannot access the “good” drive because of the loop, but you must break the cycle. One way that has worked for me is to unplug the problem drive in order to gain control of the unit. If you are not comfortable going inside the unit, you may want to give tech a call, visit a dealer, or wait for other suggestions that may be less drastic.

Re: OS Update Failure
Thank you for your input, Paul. I was able to switch from one hard drive to the other and select a non-destructive install of SE 8 on what I thought was the drive that already had SE8. That unfroze the machine, but I found out that in all of the confusion I had performed destructive installs on both hard drives. Plenty of hard drive space now!

Re: OS Update Failure
Sorry to hear that you inadvertently wiped both drives, but at least you are up and running.

Re: OS Update Failure
Thanks Paul. I did want to perform a destructive install with the SE 7 drive, but not the other one. From now on I will archive everything important on both drives before attempting an OS install to just one drive, destructive or not
