When oh WHEN will the macrosystems units accept DTE input ?
Having to sit and wait to dump into the editor is frankly a waste of time.
The crude alternative is to take the damn editor with me and dump
as I record but that is not a good solution on field shoots in the open.

I see loading the footage in my machine the best part of the editing process - it is nice and relaxing. Do you use the timer function when you load in your footage? After a shoot I look at the tape time code and if it says 45 mins you set the time on 46 mins and do something else for that time like gardening, have a coffee, surf this forum site or something you enjoy doing. If you don't have the patience to wait for footage to load you should look at reducing the amount of footage you shoot and shoot only footage you will use (unless you are editing someone elses rubbish). Editing is a time-consuming process and customers don't understand that the footage doesn't jump on the DVD by itself. How else do you want the footage to be written to the hard drive.
PS. About the retirement - you don't have to take all the jobs - you can always say No to them and put your feet up. It's a choice!
