Something's Wrong With My Solitaire

I am starting to have trouble with segments freezing when I play them. The video will freeze momentarily resulting in the video and audio getting out of synch. Eventually the video will freeze altogether and the audio starts repeating in a 1-2 second loop. This happens in both the Storyboard and the Scene Bin. I switched to a completed project I had not had a problem with and it is doing the same thing.
Is my hard drive going?

It could be that or a corrupted Operating System or a power supply dying or a fan failing and allowing the unit to overheat (or even overheating from external sources).
Lots of possibilities and the hard drive is not necessarily the likeliest unless it is starting to make noises it did not use to make.

The unit is well ventilated and is attached to a UPS. The fan appears to be running. I guess there's no way to know if it's the internal power supply until it totally fails. When the disruption occurs I can hear a clicking in the HD. I'm overdue for an OS upgrade- hopefully I will get that done soon.
It seems to be behaving today, but it was really giving me fits yesterday.
