Frank,

I know it is long-time coming, but MS is not setting idle. I am encouraged about the new software releases that are posted on the MS German website: http://www.macrosystem.de/d/news.html.

Hey Joel !! :D OK I am talking for WEDDINGS VIDEO.

Caladan 1.8= Old software but very good, limitation ? yes only HP printers
Columbus= I never try this software, but for shure is not for weddings
Photo Studio 3d= :?: :?: very limitations on the PStudio 2,for reading High resolutions pictures.
Maps= sorry never try this one too.
Many software release from MS (remember I do weddings), are very on unusal for my work (BOGART)
Many like me are PRAYING for a BETTER FOCUS, not only on MANY BUGS to kill, WE are PRAYING

I believe overseas MSDE"s primary client is affluent hobbyists and Columbus and Map software is of great interest.

Over here in the US there is a higher percentage who are using the system for money and most of it is wedding and event orientated and few have interest in the Columbus and related software.

MS has been far behind their PC/MAC competitors for many years now in IP Effects and falling farther behind each year.

That MS has not transcoded several of the software choices from Smart Edit to Bogart has accented this deficiency.

I had hoped the platform move to Linux would encourage more software, but to date it has done the opposite as MS has been too busy using their obviously extremely limited resources just trying to make Smart Edit software Bogart compatible.

Twixtor and Deshaker are about the only practical exceptions to this trend and in reality neither is a new function, just significantly improved alternatives to old IP Effect software.

Unfortunately, while I would like MS to come out with additional software to keep us competitive with the PC/Mac crowd at this point I think they need to concentrate on making the basics of the system work right.

The dropped frame issue on both monitor input and playback, the HDV to DV conversion, analog input, Zoom, etc needs to be fixed first and foremost before drifting out to new effects in my opinion.

I remember many years ago, MS was in the market competing not only to pc and Mac,It was
with many other editors .

The day they decided to suspend Dave Slone :o ..I knew this company (MS USA)was going to start falling  .
Not only with Dave, the same situation with other nice people that were working at MS USA.

Today I recived news from MS about increased price in one of the editors :o ..this is AMAZING,go to
Apple site and lastweek the release a new IMAC 27 inch more powerfull ,with the lastest procesors
and more features in this Imac. Guess what? Prices start at $ 1,699  ,what a wonderfull world :D

I am not a pesimist, I am a realistic person........Franklin

The $1699 starting price is just that - a starting price. The Final Cut Studio video software is another $999 and there may be more software necessary for additional $$$. I'm not sure that the basic iMac has the optimum hardware configuration to run the video software smoothly. From my own experience with computers in general, the low price ends up being higher for an optimum hardware configuration.

Newman !! :D yes FCP is 999.00 + 1,699.00= 2,698.00, for this price you will get a 64 bit NICE AND POWERFULL editor :o
We got FCP in my studio, but only  me use CASABLANCA.The S-4100 is MSRP $3,499.00, VERY EXPENSIVE.
I still like to use my S-PRO,(SO EASY),but if some body asked me for the price and what offers each one, I will recomend FCP,

We cant'n FADE the SUN with one FINGER.... 8-)

And Franklin,
The $3,499.00 is the price for only limited software for IP effects and transitions (if you buy a new one without trading your old unit). But if you invest in a PC editor and a powerful editing software, you can make a broadcast movie. Can our S-4100 hold the broadcast quality? I don't think so. It should though! For that price... So, if Germany want to stay in a game, they got to play much faster and competitivly.
