how can i repair this, or is this going to be a costly repair? i've had the machine an avio dvd for several months. thanks for your time

This happened to me. I had to return it to the company. They fixed and returned in a couple of days. Don't remember the cost. Does not matter - no choice, really

On the black case Avio this is very rare as the button is recessed and quite robust. It was more common on the Avio DVD where the button is proud of the case. People tended to tip the machine onto its front to view the rear connections and placing the full weight onto the button with dire consequences. However, on the black case Avio behind the black button is a small printed circuit board with the SM card reader and a micro switch. It is likely that exessive pressure on the button has broken this switch, or the board has left its mountings. If the latter, it should easily be re-fixed into place. If the former, the easiest course of action is to replace the PCB. If MS will supply one it would take 5 minutes to replace it. If you have not removed the cabinet top before, take a look here
