Maybe the wrong section to ask this question. Question PMd to Lou but I guess he's busy this AM. When recording to a Compact Flash card with a Sony camera,Is a card reader with USB required to transfer the video data files to bogart or can they be transferred with the firewire connection from the on camera memory unit? I have searched this forum and Chet Davis' forum with no info available.

Hello Bob,

Are the files AVCHD? If so, you will need to transfer via USB - either connected directly to the camera or with the CF Card in a Flash Reader/Drive connected via USB to your Casablanca. Only DV or HDV signals can transfer via Firewire.

Hope that helps!

Chet

Thanks Chet
I believe the files are .m2t in HDV and .avi type 1 in DV/DVCAM. The video was shot in 1080i HDV. They are on a 32gb CF memory card. The Sony HVR-Z5 does not have a USB port nor does the Memory unit attached to the Sony Camera. It would be similar to the Sony SXS cards but not the same. Hence the question do I need to purchase a card reader that will accept CF flash memory cards to load into the Bogart unit via USB? These readers seem readily available at Best Buy etc. if that is what is required.
I am just now beginning to use my S4000 Pro now that BB World is available and have not done any loading of video from cards.

Hello Bob,

Went back through my notes and found some details from Lou Bruno - I have posted them to this article on my website: http://www.casablancaexpert.com/articles/20091221

Hope that helps!

I answered the Pmd and also saw my SENT response so I cut and pasted it here:

I do the following all the time:

.I take the card out of the unit

.I then place the card in a card reader

.I open up Bogart

.Assign a HD project

.OPEN the RECORD window while the above is attached within the card reader to a USB port

.CLICK on the USB ICON located in the RECORD window. You will observe .m2T files

.Simply download to the scene bin

NOTE: You can use the firewire from the unit direct. Don't recommend it.

Good Luck!

Have a Blessed and HOLY CHRISTMAS!!

On Chet's site are the steps to actually downconvert using the unit.

Sorry Lou. I never received the reply. Chet sent me one of your tips very similar to your response on the BB.
After purchasing a card reader, the files down loaded without at problem in Bogart record USB. Have a Merry Christmas! :D
