Hi All. I just purchased a refurbished Renommee and I'm having a problem with the finished video after burning. There are white dash marks going across the very top of the screen in the finished product. It doesn't matter what size TV I play the DVD on, the white dash marks are there. I've clicked on Boarders in system set up and in presentation options, but the marks still show up on the finished product. Any ideas on what is causing this?

Also, on 3 occasions now when attempting to exit from Arabesk 4 my screen freezes up and I'm left with no choice but to shut down manually from the power switch which then prompts a warning the next time I boot up, that the machine was not shut down properly. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hello Garry,

Yes, we have all had the problem with being scolded by Smart Edit that we shut the machine down improperly. This has been one of the insults we have all had to deal with since the very first software edition. Even though the problem is a glitch in the software, it always lays the blame on us as uses of the software. So this is not a new problem.....just ignore it and move on.

Now the dashed lines at the top of the screen is there because the image being sent to the monitor by the editor is smaller than the capacity of the monitor so the outer edges show up on the screen. There are two things that you can do that might help with this underscan problem.

First set the "IMAGE" size under project settings to "Large" or "Full". This will increase the size of any "Effect" layer that is applied over an image. Many times this secondary layer or effect is smaller than the scene it is on top of and that image or it's underscan artifacts will show up on the screen. By choosing a larger size for this image, it tends to fill the entire scan area of the monitor screen and doesn't show the artifacts from the image below it. You will note that there are four different sizes for the image....small, normal, large and full. Each of these, effects only the special effects layers that are added and not the actual beginning image.

The second possibility is to go into System Settings and then Presentation Options and then click on "Play with Black Border" ....this will add a black border all around the image and tends to hide the underscan area as well. It is mainly designed for images which will be projected on large screens via video projectors as they generally project all of an image and show the underscan edges of the image on the screen. The frame around a monitor normally hides this area, but projectors are notorious for showing this to the audience.
