Project running time

My recent finished project showed a running time on the Finish page and in the Arabesk Film Info box of one hour and 53 minutes. However when i burned the project (on my Renommee Plus), the DVD shows a running time of two hours and three minutes on several DVD players. Can anyone explain why this might happen? Does it indicate a problem of some kind?

Thanks
Howard

Hello Howard,

Only a guess on my part, but a ten minute difference in a roughly two hour project may occur because the software was orignally written for operation in PAL and then converted to NTSC for sale in the US. We have noticed on a few occasions when the counters in certain software have been left in Pal which is 25 frames per second instead of NTSC which is 30 FPS ( actually 29.97 FPS) so the timers can read differently than what they should. 1800 frames per minute, yields 108,000 frames per hour or 216,000 for two hours in NTSC.

If the timers were set for PAL , one minute would be 1500 frames, one hour would be 9,000 frames and two hours would be 180,000 frames. That's a 36,000 frame difference in the count. So if the players were set to read one way and the counter on your editor was running the other way it could show different times. The math doesn't work out to show the difference you are getting but it's just an idea to show what might be happening.
