Disc Drive Problem

The drive in my Avio DVD (Smart Edit 4.1d, Arabesk 3) suddenly stopped being able to read and write to disc (it doesn't see the disc after it has been inserted). Also, on the Arabesk settings screen, the Write Speed options are grayed out and can not be accessed.
Anyone ever have this problem and know a solution?
Thanks
Howard

Howard,
It sounds like the DVD burner may have gone out and needs to be replaced. I had to do this on my computer a little while ago and it fixed the problem right away. The burners are really cheap now so it's not a big deal and they are easy to put in yourself. But you can send it into Boulder to have them do it if you don't feel like installing it yourself.
I would re-install Arabesk first just to eliminate the possiblility that the software has been corrupted instead of it being a hardware issue. It's much cheaper to put Arabesk back in there than buying a new burner.....so try this first then if that's not it, you'll be correct in assuming that the burner is dying.
Let us know what you find.

Thanks Jim. I do think it might be a software problem, but how can I reinstall the software if the drive is not working?

Hi Howard,
With those options missing I'd suspect the DVD burner itself.
Can you open and close the DVD drawer using an 'on-screen' button ?
You can get Arabesk v3 put on a Smart Media card . . .
