 why cant the engineers at macro system use a known partition? it seems every few months, i find my self in a data recovery situation but with this unknown partition there's no way to do a logical recovery from Linux, Mac or Windows. i mean
this is ridiculous. this time after an update my system won't recognize the previous Casablanca software. i grow tired of this
proprietary partition table. and when i call support for help they charge me $. so i asked while i had them on the phone "what is the partition table" i got some mumbles.

Hi _ ,

Lets see if we can get you some free help here - but first some clarification(s) might be necessary . . .

" Why can't the engineers at macro system use a known partition? "

Sorry, I'm not sure what you are asking here. Are you referring to the format used for the drives in a Casablanca ?

" . . it seems every few months, i find my self in a data recovery situation . . . "

What sort of data recovery situations do you mean ?
Are your working hard drives ok ?
Do you have more than one ?
Does this happen with all the drives that you have - if more than one ?
Do you back up projects to an external firewire drives ?
Have you replaced any drives recently ?

" but with this unknown partition there's no way to do a logical recovery from Linux, Mac or Windows. "

As this is a stand-a-lone system why would you expect that, the files/data are stored in such a way for Smart Edit to use them.
If you are losing data regularly do you not suspect that it's time to replace your drive(s) ?

" This time after an update my system won't recognize the previous Casablanca software. "

Do you mean you can't load the software or that it won't go active ?

" I grow tired of this proprietary partition table. "

Is this a recent thing ? (your profile says Smart Edit v7 so you've been on that system for some time now).

" so i asked while i had them on the phone "what is the partition table" i got some mumbles. "

Let's hope, with some of your answers, we can see you through to a clearer answer.
