Audio editing

A few years ago I purchased the Casablanca Avio, Smart Edit 3, 2-nd edition, Pro-Pack, and everything works fine.
Recently I bought a new HD camcorder Sony HVR-1AU. This camcorder has 2 XLR mics' inputs and allows recording audio on two channels separately. To get a full benefit of this feature I am planing to purchase the second microphone (wireless).
The Smart Edit 3 User Manual (page 43) reads: "If you have used the two-channel option on your camera, both tracks should be recorded to Casablanca".
Question:
Would I be able to see/edit separately the both audio tracks on the Audio mixing screen (i.e. one audio channel on the topmost track and the second audio Commentary track (mic symbol) ?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated,
Jerry

Hello,

Unfortunately if you record two separate audio channels that are imported with your video, you cannot edit them easily in the Audio Mix menu... you can split them off and then edit them on separate tracks as you requested. I will create a short tutorial to take you thru this step by step and post this later today.

Chet

I thought your question substantive enough to warrant a new tutorial... and so I have created a new, thorough process which is saved on my website in the premium (Members) are but is also publicly available on my Casablanca Expert Blog here: How to Split Two Audio Tracks for Detailed Audio Editing

Hello Chet,
Thanks a lot for your fast reply and tutorial. I followed your tutorial and was able to split an audio channel on the two separate audio tracks. At this time I split the raw footage with a single audio channel (I didn't buy yet the second wireless mic). It works great. I hope that this method will also work on two separately recorded audio channels. Another question: are these two channels I put on track J1 and J2 saved a stereo mode?

You are welcome Jerry -- to answer your question, each of the 6 (3 if you're not using the ProPack on AVIO, Gymnos, Claro or S2000) audio tracks are in fact stereo tracks. If you followed the process in the above referenced tutorial however, it is dual track mono -- meaning you do have a pair of tracks but it is the same audio on each track. To have two different stereo tracks, you would have to record each stereo microphone or other audio source as stereo tracks (according to your original situation, you fed the mics each to a separate channel on your camera (which gave you two mono tracks).

At least that is the case if I understand your scenario.

Chet
