I have been given a number of 46gb hard drives in there sledges for my classic, is there any way that they could be formatted so that they are compatable with my machine so that the ILLEGAL sign does not appear.

If they are SCSI - I've never heard of anyone using SCSI drives in a Cassie II machine.
Gary McNally would be the expert in this area.

You have to load the OS software that has been assigned to your classic onto the hard drives. i.e. a full destructive install of the OS software. He didn't say Cassie II, He said "my Classic" which would be Cassie I I'm guessing this a unit in addition to his later model.

Bob, you're right. I only looked at the top line of his profile and saw the Prestige V8 listed. I hope he read your response before mine really sent him a wrong direction!
Sorry bandjc!

Yes Gents I have a Classic 060 with DV upgrade that I have had for many, many years, also still have my first 040 but will never use that again, I transfer a lot of cine film and the 060 is fine for that and I dont tie up my Prestige which I can work on at the same time.

From memory all you do is click ok and the warning goes then just use the h/d as normal.

I have done it in the past, but I do not remember the process. Too many sunsets ago. Try posing the question on Carroll Lam's forum. There are a number of old heads there that may have more cells left. As mentioned, you can click past it, but I think there is some limitations on what software you can use and it becomes a continuing problem. As a last resort, you could call Boulder for a fee. There is a way of making it happen. I will check Chet's website, but it's probably not relevant since he started posting.
