Sweden DVD machine compatibility

We are doing a wedding for a couple from Sweden. We want to send copies of the DVD to their family in Sweden. Will our Arabesk formatted DVD's play on their machines? If not, can we send them a DVD player from here and if so, is an electric adapter needed? I know the Cassie family has the answers, would appreciate any input from any of you. I am using Arabesk 4.1e with Smart Edit 8.1 on a Solitaire Plus.

Hi David & Pauline,

sorry to say, but I think your idea will not work because of
incompatible reasons.
Connecting a NTSC-DVD-Player to a PAL-TV won't work.
Some PAL-DVD-Players here in Europe also do play NTSC-DVDs.
So try this: Send a short sample of Arabesk burned DVD to the
couple in Sweden and let them find out how it plays on their
or other PAL-DVD Players.
There is still another workaround converting NTSC to PAL on PC.
My PC came with a program called "Power Director" this can do the
conversion from PAL to NTSC.
Maybe there is a similar program available doing NTSC to PAL conversion?
Such NTSC-DVD played fine on US-NTSC-Players, the only thing
the authoring done with Arabesk gets lost.
Hope you find a solution for your problem.

I would agree that it would not be possible to use a US DVD player in Sweden not least because of the voltage difference. Most of Europe (if not the world ;) ) I believe is 220V 50hz. Unless your couple have an old DVD player/TV I would also be surprised if theirs will not play NTSC discs. For several years now DVD players (especially the cheapest ones) have been PAL/NTSC compatible. Usually any affordable conversion process produces a significant loss in picture quality so I would follow Hans advice and try a sample DVD first.

Great ideas. We thank you both for your input. We will give them a short sample to try.

Thanks again!
