Importing video via usb to bogart se

Am I missing something? Do I always have to go through Media Manager to import a video file via usb, then import it again from film archive to the storyboard? It appears that it is done also in real time, so it takes twice as long than if on a computer where i just import straight to a program.

On the Bogart V2 OS there are a few video files that you can import directly via the USB icon in the Record menu but you must be in an HD project and the files must be HD. However, with the forthcoming Bogart V3 upgrade, you will be able to import more file formats directly into the Bogart SE editing side (without going through the Media Manager/Archives) in both HD and SD. This won't recognize all formats (at least I don't think so) but many more than we have now under Bogart V2.

To answer your other question - yes. If you are importing into the Media Manager, you must use Archives to bring over Video, Photo or Music (audio) files into your editing project/s.

Chet

JP,

The direct usb import feature went away in Bogart 2.4c. it will not import MPEG 2 files as I have tried to get it to work. It did work in a previous OS version but as Chet said, Bogart 3 will rectify and improve this great feature of direct import from HD and SD sources and memory cards. Right now, I firewire most of my footage from my Sony EX1 into a project but if I want to continue shooting with the camera, I use my sony SxS card reader to import into media manager and that works well.

Thank you both. I'll just have to wait for Bogart 3.

Hi,

Joel is right...in Bogart 3 you can directly import clips into the Bogart side via usb...I must say that it works well for HD footage, but it is still impossible to import directly SD videos...It has only work a few times, with very short clips...this function is still very buggy...I don't understand that...who the bloody Hell is testing this soft at MS???!!!
So many bugs or problems that make Bogart unusable...waiting for an other 3 or 6 months for a corrective patch, just to be able to import simple SD mpeg2 files...simply incredible !!!

Cheers.

The BETA TESTERS in EUROPE can only report findings, they are not responsible for the release.

Yes, you are making a false assumption here.

You bloody well cannot really think such obvious bugs were not found by the beta testers, surely!!?! 8-)

I have to agree with Vincent, I purchased Bogart3.1 for over $300 and I dumped it for now and have gone back to 2.4.
The software is pretty buggy as I had a few unexplained shut downs by just switching screens.
Also the 2 weddings I tried to edit with it had many stupid things in it like splitting long scenes eg. ceremony/speeches into multiple cuts.
When you are using multiple cameras it is a big problem if the scenes split up and are missing some of the footage.
I reported this to Germany and someone actually wrote back to me and blamed it on re-using the tapes too many times.
Funny thing is after loading Bogart 2.4 back on the machine and reloading the footage from the same tape (of course) it didn't detect any cuts so it couldn't be that.
As Vincent mentioned I haven't had much luck importing DV footage by USB or CD either.
The part of the 21 frames missing in a previous post is very annoying also as you can't trim it so easily.
All in all I hope they make an effort to fix this, otherwise this could have been an expensive piece of useless software.

By the way it looks like they are spending all their time developing new stuff for the consumer market as the response to fix the bugs is as slow as a snail.
How long do you have to spend on redirecting a company that they have taken over more than 6 months ago  and that is a long time - you could ride around Australia
on a bicycle in that time and it is a BIG country. :D

Hi,

Well, I wasn't thinking about the beta testers.

I know that they're doing their job, I'm a beta tester myself (not for MS, but for many different video editing/compositing softwares for Linux).

I was more thinking about the guy at MS who gives the final ok for the release, knowing that many (major) issues are still remaining...that's all.

To my opinion, this is not acceptable anymore.

Right now, I'm wondering how long will Loewe AG let that kind of things going...

Cheers.

I would whole heartedly agree with that as I have never been in favor of releasing software with major known bug issues without making it crystal clear to the users what the downsides were as well as the upsides.
