Columbus3, how to land an aircraft ?!
Hello folks,
I am playing with Columbus 3 for a while now. And I think somewhere I read that it is possible to "land" an aircraft in Columbus 3.
That means, I want to decrease the distance of the key object's shadow when it reaches the last way point.
I found out how to decelerate the airplane but it looks awful when the shadow remains at the same distance when it landed.
Any ideas ?
Happy Easter,
Volker

I have not tried it so I cannot say it will work, but why not try making two clips of your aircraft landing, one with the shadow and one without, but using the exact flight, scene length, deceleration, etc. In the story board, insert the none shadow version onto the shadow version, use Trim E to scroll to the point just before it lands (decelerates) and place a cross fade on the interface for whatever time you think it will give you the right look.
It will not change the shadow distance, but the shadow will fade out as the aircraft lands and it may just give you the look you want.
I will have to try this, but since it is well past midnight now, I may have a go tomorrow.

Thanks Ian, that is worth a try. But I am afraid that this will not be the result I am looking for.
I watched you demos on the Film Fest discs. Nice work by the way. Everyone should take part at the Film Fest, I think...

Volker,
I am getting ready for Chet's workshop this morning as I write.
Unlike CB PAINT shadows, the shadow in Columbus 3 is of a fixed value. Now you can use your transition/fade area to shrink the entire plane at the keypoint.

Now that is an impressive effect, I like this a lot. I will have to see if I can do something similar.
Thanks for the comment on my Film Fest entry by the way.

Said Hell-o to Chet. Great workshop!
Did you use the fade-out by assigning the keypoint in Col. 3?

Have fun and say hello to Chet...

That video is from the website of the PC-pendant Vasco da Gama. It obviously offers some more features than Columbus

One thing that really puzzles me is why can't you add two trails/paths to one clip . . . even if you create a scene of the first one.
Even if you try it in its demo form, have a go - see what you can achieve !

No one prepared to give it a go - not as easy as it sounds . . .
