Beachy,

Glad to see you on the forum, but I can't help on your problem. I only know how to help on two or three problems and that is not one of them. Jim, Tim, Lou or some of the others will be checking in about Wednesday ( Long Holiday Weekend)

The only thing I can think of is that the 16:9 project is reading effects as 4:3 for some reason. This COULD happen if the original import project was designated as 4:3 THEN changed to 16:9 afterwards. However, this is just speculation.

Perhaps, using the clipboard function and importing those scenes to a 16:9 project window MAY work.

I see that the OS is the 3.0 series which I am no longer familiar with-sorry.

Wish I could add more.

If you have the Project Image Setting on Normal or Small that could possibly be causing the issue with some cams.

The first thing I would do is reinsert one of the Crossfades where you experienced the issue, Create and see if the action reappears.

If not, get back to business, if so, then switch the Project Image to Large or Full and then Add a Crossfade at that same offending spot, Create and see if that fixes the issue.

Redoing the crossfade did the trick...But I am not sure that I should be shooting in 16.9??
It doesnt seem to "Work" as well as the old 4.3 what do most of you shoot in???

I use 16:9 exclusively, though not HD.

John,

There are only a very few SD cams that actually have true 16:9 chip(s) and most SD cams use a digital cheat to get their 16:9 mode.

They do this by digitally using only part of the chip "real estate" to essentially letterbox the video to the correct aspect ratio and then electronically blow it up a bit to fit the screen.

This gives you the correct aspect ratio of 16:9, but at a significantly reduced video quality.

I would stick to shooting and editing in 4:3 with SD 4:3 cams to keep the video quality high and only switch to 16:9 when you move to true 16:9 cams.

PS - I have been shooting exclusively in HDV (16:9) for four years now.

Thanks for that Tim, I have a cannonXl1 and that is dreadful 16.9!! the viewfinder is very distorted and its not a natural picture after downloading.. also the 2 sony'sa that I shoot with, one is So-So but the other does look contrived..So you had the answer Tim
thanks I will reset to 4.3, never had any complaints in that format!! john
