Corrupt Files

I recently had a project with several hundred clips. I had big time trouble loading into Arabesk. It turns out that 5 of the files were corrupt. They were all off my mini-dv tape recorded with a Sony Mini DV Camcorder. I was able to get the 5 files deleted and everything worked ok. I was just wondering what causes a file to be corrupt and if it is, why would smart edit play it as ok when I was ready to load it into my storyboard. I have a Solitaire. Thanks, Billy

The main reason for a corrupt file from DV25 is due to sync problems caused by head pitch, bad 1394 cable or cables ,dirt on the heads, re-used tape, incompatible play recorders. The Canon GL-1/2 series are notorious for head pitch problems when using a play deck as the head pitch is critical.
The MAIN reason for corrupt files when using flash media is failing to let the card download and shutting down the camera prematurely while the information is buffering. This will corrupt an entire card with the loss of material or even the entire card.
