transition problem

Working on a simple project, that is until I insert a transition between scenes. Transition acts as normal but, 'behind' transition a black 'letter box' frame appears as part of the transition. It doesn't matter which simple transition I use, all have this 'letter box' as part of the transition. How can I get rid of it please.
All help/suggestions welcome.
Thank you,
dixons

You have not set your Project format to 16:9 by accident have you?

Tim,
Thanks for your interest. No, set to 4.3 to match 'old' film I'm editing.
kind regards,

Go into the PROJECT menu.
Look for "IMAGE."
Change "IMAGE" to "FULL."
See if that works by experimenting with a NEW and DIFFERENT project.

Lou,
Thank you too for your interest and advice. Have tried this but no difference. Strange thing is that when I preview a transition it looks OK. After I create it however the black 'letter box' shape appears.
Have tried various things but no luck.

Ok, I think I have it.
What do you have your Project Image set at in the Project Settings?
My bet is "Normal".
Set it to Large or Full, remove transition and Add it back again and render.
My bet that will fix your problem.

Hi,
Which Bogart are you on ?
We have been experiencing this in PAL land (on and off) but it's only normally present when 'mixing' 16:9 and 4:3 footage . . .

Hi Michael,
Thanks for reply. I have Bogart V3.Oa i.e.last update from Martyn. I am using only 4.3 in project. I have also tried transitions in a 16.9 project with same result.
Glad, in a way, to hear that others in PAL land have similar problem now and then. I thought it was just me who was missing some simple adjustment.

Well it could be a PAL bug or it actually could be several of you are missing a simple adjustment.
Did you try changing your Image size to Large or Full and then Add/Render a transition to see if that "fixes" it?

Tim,
Have tried all of this and more to no avail. I'm just a simple Scots lad so that's my excuse. I can't speak for the rest of PAL land!
It just seems strange that the function was working normally the day before this first occurred.
Do Chet/Martyn have any ideas? Would appreciate their input.
