Hi All:

It's been about 4 years since I last used my Kron and a lot of water has run under the bridge......lol. But, now I am back
into Casablanca editing. Currently using OS v2.1, but I purchased v3.1 before leaving video editing to study Audio
Engineering privately with a pro in St. Louis. My current Kron stats are as follows:

CPU: AMD K6-III+
Memory: 64 MB
Hard Drive: 38 GB
System Size: 1.1 GB

I realize I am working in the dark ages, but I am just using my Kron to archive some family S-VHS/VHS tapes to DVD.
I would like to install OS v3.1 (I have the smart card).

I have been watching the Smart Edit 3.0 training tape and most of my appreciation for and operational skills for the
Kron are back. Just need some sequential step-by-step assistance to get v3.1 loaded.

Lastly, do I need more RAM for OS 3.1? Anything else that I am not currently aware of?

P.S. Can't believe that MacroSystems is charging for email/phone support. It sure was wonderful in the old days
when they wanted to talk all the time. It sure motivated me to purchase extra software too. I hope they are
beginning to see the light from our recent recession and are acquiring new Casablanca Users. It's a great
machine......

I sent you a private message. Basically, you will need to do a complete install (not an update) and then reinstall your software. You will lose any projects currently on the drive. As far as I know, 64 mb is sufficient to use OS 3x. Incidently, OS 3 reached 3.6 but I'm not sure you can get the latest version anymore - perhaps a dealer or direct from Macrosystem? Good luck!

Note that you now have to load Arabesk separately. You did not list a DVD burner so this may be a moot point. If your Kron does not have a DVD burner you may be able to get Smart Edit version 3.6 on your Smart Card from your dealer, ClamCam, or from Macrosystem US.

There are no MPEG modes in SE3 - only DV. Since DV uses one gigabyte for each 5 minutes of video, your hard drive will hold something less than 3 hours. Filling the hard drive completely will cause the system to become unstable, as it would in any computer system.

The prevailing economic conditions have forced many companies to change their operations and support offerings in order to stay alive and (somewhat) profitable. Rather than raise product prices MacroSystem chose to charge for tech support calls - which I think may have helped many users discover that their ability to read and comprehend manuals had grown exponentially in a short period of time.

I would suggest you take a look at the Casablanca Expert website http://www.casablancaexpert.com/ - a site that offers users a wide array of Casablanca and Casablanca related support features. Chet Davis is an educator with many years of experience with Casablanca editors and dedicated to our community. Chet not only filled the void left by changes at MacroSystem - he reinvented what support could and should be. In this regard, the "good old days" were never this good

should make my installation of OS v.3.1 a lot easier.

Yes, Craig, you are correct. I do not have Arabesk, but use DV almost all the time; that is, unless I'm copying an S-VHS
tape for archiving purposes. I have already subscribed to Chet Davis's forum. I have known Chet for a number of years
as he used to visit Sacramento, CA at least once a year for Cassie meetings. Great guy and so knowledgeable about
MacroSystem U.S. products. Also agree about reason for support charges. It will necessitate a little more effort and
some intensified reading of User's Manuals. This is a good thing as it gets everyone involved and doing their share
in the understanding of any computerized product.

Thanks again to you both. A pleasure to read your input. Now, to finish up a few projects and then on to the
install of OS v.3.1. Guess with your estimate, Craig, of hard drive capacity when using DV, I'll be OK for awhile.
I don't work with projects longer than 1 hr in length and, normally, about 30 minutes.
