S4100 NOT RECORDING IN AFTER 40% USED MEMORY

Chet,

Do you have any suggestions about why my s4100 will not record in hd mode after it reaches 40% capacity of disk space. It just defaults after recording one frame and the only way to get it to work is to remove a lot of my archived footage and eventually it will record again for a week until I get over the 40% mark. This really costs me a lot of time by having to back up this footage on dvd and it isnt as good as the footage that is native hd. I called tech support and after $12.00 they have no ideas. I am also having errors and restarts every time I try to enter text that is archived when the editor starts up. After a couple of errors the archived text will work without throwing it into a shutdown. any ideas you have about the problem bringing in the footage would be appreciated. Sometimes it works but it wont import the whole clip just a portion of it. I have had so many problems with the hd projects, but I have to have the quality for our national broadcast, but the numerous problems have been very troublesome.

thanks for your help!

I know that with Generation 2 machines like my Kron+, many ills were cured by by a destructive install of the OS. If you can use an external hard drive to archive material (and then reload what you need) why not try that? Or is there an advantage to using DVDs to archive/backup?

thanks Craig. I dont have an external hard drive. I bought the 4100 because of the terabyte of storage. so dvd is the only possible archive for me. however I have never been able to get the machine to burn a blu ray that works and the dvd's are analog and not good quality.

You can archive on a flash drive, SD card etc. as long as you have enough space. You don't need to have an external drive per say.

LouBruno,

How do I archive to SD card on the 4100? I have no outputs on the machine to export into SD card? How would I put it on a usb flash? What connection and how?

Many Thanks,
SpringSprung

No outputs? No USB ports? Card reader will work with the USB.
