Unique Problem!

Post by flvideo »

I just ran into a problem that I haven't encountered before. I downloaded about 60 minutes of video in to my Renommee and had the audio plenty high going in. I just went to edit this video and it is so low you can't hardly hear it. It didn't record in my editor the way I heard it going in. Is there something I am missing? Have I got a setting wrong some where that I can't find? Maybe it is clipping it? I put the tape back in my VTR and it still sounds pristine going in but when I play it back when I get it in is solo you can't hear it. Anyone experienced this before. Thanks in advance. Bob...

It may be in your settings go to record playback setting in playback it will have volume you may have it set too low like -50db. hth... I usually have mine on 0 db which will give you normal playback. My number is on my signature if need help...

Lowell where are these settings you speak of? I had the volume in the mix set to 0. I went to project settings and clicked on audiosettings Its set on normal. I have been every where I can find and as far as I can tell every thing is set right. Bob..

First you need to determine if this is a recorded level issue or simply a playback issue.

Do the visual audio meters show it is pegging at a decent level or are they showing real low?

If they are up there it's a playback issue, turn up your monitor or stereo!

Seriously, one way or another it's a playback issue if the meters are showing good audio.

If the meters are showing low audio levels then something was set wrong during input if the original audio levels on the tape is fine.

Was this input with firewire or analog?

In the Audio, Edit menu what setting is audio input on? (controls for this are on the right hand portion of the screen and are buttons with drop down choices), what is the audio record level set at (control for this is on the upper left hand side with the audio level bars).
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Hey Tim
I hadn't checked here in a while so I missed your post till now. I am useing fire wire to input. I input the 60 minute clip and the levels sounded good going in and the meters were at a good level. I got it all in scene bin and put the 60 minutes up on the story board. I built an intrduction to the piece and put that up on the story board. when I put a transition between the intro and the scene I played it and I realized the audio on the 60 minutes was extremely low. I checked the audio record screen and clicked on special and the volume there was set on 0.I checked in the project settings screen and clicked on audio settings and the audio tracks up top was set at normal. All the other tracks were gray and not available. I then clicked on the normal and moved it to selection. All the tracks came alive except the video track which I assume is the camera audio that was recorded with the video. That was locked and it remained locked after going to selection. I tryed recording short clips from the tape I had used and I got the same result about 5 times. Lowell told me to check the playback settings but I don't have that option. I went to another project and input the 60 minutes into that project and it was fine. I didn't want to lose all the time I had spent on the intro so I tried something. I used the clipboard and moved the Piece from the 2nd project to the project where I had the problem. It seems fine so I completed the piece and it looks like its ready to go. I'll render it later. I am wondering. Is it possible to have something wrong with that project? Whew I'm Scratching my head! Thanks Bob...

Common problem: Either the volume is set too low or too high in the MAIN window. Keep it at 70% So what happens? A person will either over compensate or under compensate thus volume problems.

Lou,

Which screen were you referring to when you wrote Main window? (Edit, Audio Mix, Settings, etc...) Which operating systems have this volume control?

I am using SE7. The volume control Lowell was talking about was on a different version I guess. I think I have something wrong with that project. I went on another project and input the 60 min clip and it was fine. I then clipboarded it to the bad project and it seems fine. I have another segment to edit yet so I haven't rendered any of it yet. Bob...
