Apparently, when you length adjust a scene, you lose the ambient sound that came with the original scene. So I guess the only way to save the ambient noise is to strip it off the original scene, so its not lost. Right?

That is correct. The reason it goes silent is you would be speeding up or slowing down the sound, distorting it from it's original recording.

Okay, thanks, Bob. Problem now is, I need a tutorial on how to use the feature where you can strip the audio from a scene. I wonder what to do with it after that, and how to put it where I need it.

Hello Jim,
Actually the Scene>Sample buttons is one of my favorites! You will find a tutorial on the use of this function on my website here:

The short answer is that once you create this new audio sample, you will place it where you want it (beneath the scene you applied Length Adjust to, for example) in the Audio Mix menu.
Hope that helps!
Regards,
Chet

Okay, Chet, thanks! So, I can loop it by adding right after itself on the sound track, right?

Yes sir - that's correct... you can add that new audio sample (from the Scene>Sample button) in a track in the Audio Mix menu.
