Bullet points

Can anyone tell me an easy way to add bullet points to a video? The way I have been doing it in order to get the timing, was to cut the video into all the segments at which point I need the next bullet point to appear. I then archive the previous point, add it to the new scene and then add the new text to it. Very time consuming.
I cannot figure out if it can been done by adding a new page and then adjusting the range.

Thanks in advance!
Jeff

Hello Jeff,

I am not aware of any other way to do this... the only way I can think of using the Pages function of the Titler is if you have uniform length segments that need a different title, even then each page would need to have the list re-typed as it grows (from 1 to 4, etc). The new Title Studio does allow (for the first time) copying of one page onto the next, and even copying boxes.

The one idea/suggestion I do have that will perhaps make this project a tiny more efficient is to make this growing list your Demo title, instead of archiving it. That way, each time you launch the titler it will keep all font attributes and even the previously entered text up onto the next bullet point/title.

Regards,
Chet

that is a great idea putting it on the demo!
Thanks Chet!

If you have CB PAINT, contact me off-line @ Gocycle@optonline.net

:!: Waayyyy....back, in my Amiga 500/Supergen days, I can remember a trick we'd use with a list. Type out the entire list first, then starting with the beginning of your program, each time you need bullets - add the page (demo in this case). Then just erase the lines that you don't need yet. If you're at the beginning of the program at the spot of the first bullet, add the page with the whole list and erase all but the first bullet.

I haven't yet tried this but in picturing it .... I think you may be able to accomplish this without splitting by using the Trim function on the clip in the Storyboard (not in the clip bin). First you would trim the beginning of the clip in the storyboard to the point you want your first bullet to appear, then add the text page (and erase lines you don't need yet), then range the time it appears on the screen to fit your need. Then re-trim that clip farther along to the next in point for titling and do the same thing. If you have Power Key, Trimming can be done with a couple of key strokes. I haven't yet tried this, and I'm not sure that the locations you choose for the titling will hold as you re-trim the clip(s) in the Storyboard. You could try rendering the titles as you go.

I wonder if Timeline editing give you any more control over inserting titles if you are zoomed in to the point you need the titling to appear?

Well, as I read it, it certainly sounds like it would work.
The concern I had as well was, would I be able to add another title effect. My solution is that I could scene the title effect and then insert it back in to allow me to add another title effect for the next bullet point.

Thanks!

I believe the method I suggested above would limit you to hard cuts with the addition of each new line.

If you create scenes you would be able to use a transition like a crossfade between the base clip and the insert. Then when you insert the scene, the lines that were already there would remain solid and the new line would fade in. I think you would want to split the clip where all of the bullets are to appear. Let's say it ends up being 4 minutes and you want to insert a list consisting of 5 bullets, adding one bullet at a time until all 5 appear on the screen:

You would introduce the first line at the desired time by adding the entire list, erasing bullets 2 - 5, and ranging it for the length of the clip.

Render and make a scene.

Replace the scene that was on the storyboard with the one you just created (with one bullet).

Now you Insert both the first and second bullets at the point the second bullet is to appear by adding the entire list and erasing bullets 3 - 5.

Range it to the end of the scene and insert a crossfade between the base scene and the beginning of the insert.

Render and make a scene of this and replace the scene that was on the storyboard with this one.

Keep repeating this, each time adding the list with one more bullet.

Let us know if this works.

Craig,
It worked like a charm!
That will be a huge time saver from here on out!
The only thing I had to do is change the setting under "box" then under "text" change it to "top". Otherwise the text moves down every time I deleted a line.
Thank you so much!
Jeff

I'm glad it worked for you. Time savers are good! 8-) Which method did you end up up using, trimming or inserts?
