envelope with audio timeline

A while back I posted a question about why I couldn't start my playback from the audio envelope in the timeline from the markers, it always starts at the beginning of the audio segment, not where I made the correction and have the marker placed.. Jim Meeker answered me and explained it was a glitch with one of the upgrades. I just downloaded all the recent upgrades for my Solitaire Plus, hoping that would fix it, but woe is me....it still doesn't work right. Is there any way to work around this, or any chance (cough cough) that macrosystem will help with a problem with the Generation II machines. It's very frustrating to have to start at the very beginning of an audio segment when my correction is in the middle..Any help would be appreciated. I am running SE 8.1 with most of the Generation II software. I purchased SE 9.1 but don't want to install it until I finish this big project.

To play long scenes from a specific point, either for video or audio checking, I use the following:-

From the “New” menu, make a 1s distinctive colour scene.

“Insert” this scene into your long story board main scene. From the “Insert” drop down box change the “Range” from “Trim” to “Position”, click the “Start” and scroll along to the point where the scene is to be viewed, or just a second or so before this point. Then press “OK”.

Now when playing the long scene you are editing, it will start from the point where the colour scene has been inserted. The scene can be viewed from this point as many times as required.

Once the scene has been viewed, corrected or whatever, just remove the insert and the scene will return back to normal. This will not remove any transitions, effects, audio samples, etc.

Thanks for the response... I understand what you are saying and doing, I was just wanting an easy fix from the marks as I ajdust in the envelope window. It is so annoying. Knowing macrosystyem has a problem, but not taking the time to fix it in the generation II machines. I use the envelope in the timeline a lot. Thanks again for answering my question and helping me out. You are so helpful on the forum, thanks for taking the time to help.

Thanks for the comment , although I have just realised I had not read your original question correctly or at least the title to your question. You are of course working in the timeline application and not the standard audio, therefore my solution is not applicable.

I agree, if indeed there is a known bug / issue in this program, then we have every right to expect it be fixed.

This was a known issue with Smart Edit 8.
When using the Audio envelope feature, there will not be a playback from an area near highlighted keypoints.
You can only play from the beginning a created envelope sample.
You can view other known issues here:
http://www.clamcamvideo.com/SE8-Release-Notes-Full.pdf

I thought I read somewhere that it was fixed, or at least made more accurate, with Smart Edit 9 but I can't find any information on that "bug fix".

I've been trying to work with shorter clips to get around this problem.

Hello David & Pauline,

That was/is a frustrating issue, particularly if you are using the envelope on a longer audio segment! But, the good news is that I do believe this issue was fixed in Smart Edit V8.3
You can download this version here: http://macrosystem.us/index.php?pr=Smart_Edit

Hope that helps!

Regards,
Chet

Ooops! No wonder I couldn't find it in the release notes for Smart Edit 9!

Thank you, Chet!

Woo Hoo.... I am one happy Generation II machine owner. The Smart Edit V8.3 fixed it.... You don't realize how many times I adjust my audio using the envelope. Chet, Can I use the same version on a regular Solitaire? I have both a regular and a plus machine. This fix was used on the Solitaire Plus. or.. if I fix the sled in the Solitaire Plus, does the same sled work (fixed) in the Solitaire. Thanks so much and thanks for the others who were working on my problem. You're a great group!!!

Glad to help -- the version for your Sol Plus will not work with your Solitaire.
Please see the top of that same page (http://macrosystem.us/index.php?pr=Smart_Edit) for the link to the latest SmartEdit Basic OS CD. This version is the one to use in a non-Plus Solitaire (as well as the other Smart Edit models preceding it - Avio, Kron, KronPlus, Prestige).

Oh, and in answer to your other question - I believe the sled (created in your SolPlus) will work in the Sol but will not cure the issue, as that is related to the OS and until your Sol has the updated OS it cannot access this fix)

Regards,
Chet
