Reads avi file but cannot import

S4000, Bogart 3. I have a 7 minute AVI file on a usb. It plays in Media Manager but no red button shows up to import. I have gone through every step, OPT>6>5. There is the play button but no import into.
I also had this video clip originally on a cf 32gig card which MM plays, but again doesn't import. I copied the file to usb thinking maybe MM didn't like the cf card. Obviously still a problem even from a usb.

And another off subject: what function is UPnP as an add-on?

Hi I don't know if I could help you but in Bogart 3 you can directly record some files in the editor by using the record menu in SE not through MM.
Drop down and select the USB port it does WMV files don't know if it does AVI you have to try that your self.

This all comes back to when they intrduced the S4000 and showed us that you would be able to import any
form of files directly into the machine. Apparently that was there vision and never made it and didn't explain it well.
Now we still are trying to import the most commom files by a big work arround.

I have an avi-file on USB flash drive.
In Bogart Casa inserted to USB has imported to scene bin without problem.

In MM it also plays from USB flash drive.
And can be imported via MM to film file and from here to scene bin.

AVI is a container file, it allows various codec versions.
I suspect your avi file is not on the Casa codec list.

Maybe you try converting on PC to an MPG file and then try again
importing to Casa?

AVI files created with "Disk Transfer" program are compatible with Casa SD-files

I have converted avi files to mpeg and they do import; but I was under the assumption that avi could be imported directly and easily enough. Now, apparently, only certain avi files whose codec is accepted by Casa. Where do I find these codecs? I don't like converting files, losing quality, in order to work with them in a casa system.
Doesn't seem right...

Well JP, that's the way it is with AVI import to Casa.
We have to convert in order for successful importing of some avi-files.

The AVI is nothing more than a wrapper. AVI type 2 will work. AVI Type 1 will sometimes only accept audio with a blank screen. This is not the fault of the system. This incompatability is found in even the most sophisticated editing software. FCP uses Pro Res 2.....then there is Cineform....all different plug-ins to convert files to be read. Lot's of free software on the web to convert files. A google search will bring them up.
