DVD Burner Models Gen2

I have a "Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D" burner with Firmware Version: 1.41 in my Solitaire. Chet indicated the 116 drive worked too in these machines. So the question is are they interchangable or is there a benifit to one over the other? I have a little free time this week and some ideas on how to find a few replacement drives for those needing to fix their dead drives. I just need to know exactly which drive to look for and replacement tips?

The 116 is more or less a direct replacement as they 'both' do dual layer and therefore the System Partition should already be large enough (about 11Gb or highr).
If this is not correct then you'll need to do an install on all drives that you'll use. You can check this by clicking on the serial number once you've entered System Settings.
However the only issue you probably will face is the fact that the 116 is shorter and therefore the IDE cable might be at full stretch to reach.
This sometimes results in the cable coming loose once you've put it all back together

Ron,
The Pioneer series up to 116 work in the Gen2 machines.
The primary difference between the 110 and 116 is speed.
The 110 can write up to 16X for DVD and 8x for dual DVD whereas the 116 can write up to 20x and 12x for dual.
That does not mean they do as it's also limited to the specific medium and the platform.
The Avio for example cannot take advantage of anywhere near those write speeds as it cannot communicate the data fast enough.
Lastly, many editors artificially hold the burn speed down (burn speed is variably selectable in the Arabesk Settings menu) as a precaution for a higher percentage of accurate writing results.
The burners need software drivers specific to the model which is why other makes will not work in the editors.
I don't know what changed with the more recent Pioneer models that prevented MSUS from being able to make driver software for them to keep them compatible with the old Gen2 systems, but obviously some change in the models did just that.

Hey Tim...
Thanks!
One observation I just found ... on the MSUS site they show Firmware V 1.37 (New) as the correct firmware for the 110 burner. My "information" on the solitaire indicates I have V 1.41 .... which I would think (higher number) would be a newer version....any thoughts?

Yes, higher firmware numbers normally mean more recent versions.
Over the years I have found the MSUS website to often be living in the past (aka: not kept up to date).

v1.41 is the latest version for that DVR 110 burner.
Also Pioneer ceased production of IDE CD/DVD burners and have moved on to SATA only, hence Macro have had to drop them.
LG produce a unit that we can use from Smart Edit v7 up and Arabesk v4 - although I've not had much success with it

A little Googling can unearth a few remaining Pioneers. There's one new 112D left here.

A few years back, I questioned the different firmware update versions and was advised that IF a DVD burner was installed in GERMANY, it will have a different version number than one installed in the States. They are both current.
