Casablanca a good idea?

Here is the million dollar question. Is it better to spend 4k on a new s6000 or 4k on a smoking pc with Eduius software?
I am shooting HDV and want to edit and burn to BluRay. The specs on a $4k pc blow away the specs on a s6000 so which is better?

I know of a tv station that is doing away with their Edius system because they have had nothing but problems with them.

I would recommend the S-6000 personally.

Well comparing specs is not necessarily apples to apples as the PC is going to come with Windows 7 or perhaps Windows XP, both of which are a fairly generic, bloated Operating Systems versus the S6000 that uses a Linux Operating System written specifically for video editing.

I think it really comes down to whether you prefer to use the Timeline or Storyboard style of video editing.

All the major PC video editing software choices such as Edius, Adobe Premiere CS5, Sony Vegas and the Mac's primary one, FCP all use Timeline and all MSUS platforms use Storyboard.

The Casablanca system can also switch between time-line and story board modes. I prefer the story board set-up personally. The Casablanca is reliable and very stable as well. It would be well worth having a look and considering the Casablanca system.

I strongly prefer the Storyboard method myself, but we owe Bulletin Board members accuracy and truth.

The Timeline mode in the Casablanca system is a simple mock up that is not truly functional for actual video editing.

If you want to use Storyboard editing the Casablanca system is the cat's meow, if you want Timeline editing seek another editing software.

The Casablanca system offers a free-standing editing system, not creating conflicts in a PC, which some editing systems do. Also, not being in a system where internet garbage can create problems is a big plus. Being a standalone system is a major plus for Casablanca, I think. Its the main reason I went with it.

My own feelings are that the simplified storyboard screen in Casablanca is easy on the eyes and brain, as opposed to the Timeline editing systems I've seen that have too much information displayed all at once. Regarding glitches, they do happen in any system, but more so (potentially) with a computer that's connected to internet. My Renomee Plus (the best of Generation 2) is used for capture, edit, and burn - nothing else. It just seems like a "cleaner" environment; no viruses, no worms, and no spammers!

I'm curious as to what video market and/or genre of work you'll be involved with. That may be a factor in your decision, particularly if you ever collaborate with others in the trade, so to speak. Happy shopping!

Thanks for your opinions guys. Believe it or not I am still using my 8 year old Avio to edit standard def (and down converted HiDef) stuff and it just keeps on working!
I mostly do wedding work and have been shooting everything on HDV for a year now but really want to edit in HiDef and burn Blu Ray on every job soon.
I have Sony Vegas, so have edited using both timeline and storyboard and do prefer storyboard so the next machine might just be another Cassie.

Here in Germany some users operating Edius or Avid/GrassValley professional editing systems have
seperate high speed PC systems which are not connected to internet.
Same with TV-Stations doing news and show editing.
The system is only used for editing purposes.
So another stand-alone system like Casablanca.
