I have a few questions and please excuse me if they may seem novice like.
As I am researching HD cameras, I have to ask, other then burning a bluray disc, the client cannot receive a project in HD, correct? If the answer is yes, I have to assume, based on what people are saying, even though not delivered in HD the footage is still better because it was shot in HD, even with the down convert to SD. Yes or no?

The second question: Is it true that the bogart systems cannot work with .mov files?

In the 21st Century we are very lucky that tape and DVD's are now only part of the delivery system. HD projects can be uploaded to the net in various forms. HD files can be place on USB, flash media, given to the client to play in their USB port of a computer, PlayStation 3, some Blu-ray players, Western Digital box, uploaded to Vimeo in HD, You Tube etc.

In theory, downconverted HD to SD is suppose to be better. I use my PRO HD deckto downconvert HDV. However, in BOGART 4, there are suppose to be better downconverts which will allow downconverting of various files.

BOGART does a nice job importing .MOV files. But be careful here. the .MOV files may be just a wrapper. I have NO problems with .MOV files via the BOGART side.

Ok, thanks Lou. I asked that questions about the .mov file because my macrosystem sales rep said that it couldn't. I will go with your answer since you are actually doing it.

If you mean HD down conveted to DV with the camera via a Fire Wire lead - then yes.

You will lose the Auto Split points although there is a setting for "Time" as a split option (depending which Smart Edit you are on).
I have never found this a successful way to auto split more than 10 to 15 minutes of footage though

I think you can actually burn HD onto DVD, but it only holds about 20 minutes of HD info. The only reason I would have to shoot HD for a client that does not want HD at the end, would be for archiving. In that case the whole work flow from beginning to end would be HD, then downconverted to SD on DVD. Archive the HD "finished job" and sell it to them in the future when they realize they should have gotten HD. I dont know if there is any advantage to shooting HD for better image on SD. Its not like 3/4 in. or s-vhs to vhs. There was a reason for that. Now your just going from 1080 lines of res to 480 lines of res. I cant see how your picking anything up by doing that.

I have some friends whose Sony Blu Ray players won't play the Blu Rays I burn on my S4100, so I burned the HDV video as a AVCHD on a dvd disk and it plays fine - and the video is about 28 minutes. Looks as good as the Blu Ray in my limited tests.
