My Soiltaire does not start :(

Post by tbote »

I have a Solitaire, when I power up it beeps, show the "Verifying DMI pool data", and in a few seconds (8-10) it reboots. If I insert a DVD, after "Verifying DMI" shows the "Boot from CD" text (so it pass the DMI event) but anyway it reboots in seconds.

Any idea?

Have you tried booting with a Smart Media card with the OS on it - if you have one ?

I have not :(

I've installed a new Hard Disk (400Gb, without partitions) just to make a clean install, I've downloaded from Macrosystem.de a CD-Image: "CD Image Casablanca SMART EDIT 8 Start CD (for Claro, Gymnos, Renommee, Renommee PLUS, Solitaire and Solitaire PLUS)", I've burned it, try to boot, but after a few seconds the screen goes black and nothing happens. I've tried with another CD with a Windows Live (just to see if it boots) and works ok so the hardware seems ok.

Must I use another CD to reinstall the Solitaire?

If it is a new hard drive, you actually must start from a Smart Media Card. It seems crazy, I know, but because there isn't anything formatted onto the HD, it can't read the CD. So you must load the OS from the card first (doesn't really matter if it's an up to date OS), then you can use the CD to reload the current OS and appropriate software.

And there is not another way to reinstall? I have not any smartmedia :(

Must use the card. When I got a new drive last year I had to contact my dealer to send me a card. Once I did that it worked like a charm. Wish I had a better answer, but that's how these Gen II machines operate.

Ok, so if I buy a blank SmartMedia Card, unzip the Boot CD in it, will it boot or I need a specific SmartCard from Macrosystem?

I ask because in Spain the Casablanca support is like life in hell so I don't think they will send me nothing.

Thank for your help BobC!

Unfortunately, it has to be specifically formatted with a Casablanca OS. Do you know any other Cassie users in your area? They might have an old one still lying around that you could borrow.

Hi "tbote",
do you also have a real name?

Is your Solitaire running on PAL or NTSC?
The reason I ask is, I had a SolitairePlus and sold it.(PAL)
I remember still having some SmartMediaCards somewhere.
I said somewhere because I have to search for them.
If you are on PAL I could send one for keeping.
Not sure if there is one having SmartEdit System Software on it.
Waiting for your reply

If you contact me via the web site http://www.dalco.co.uk/sendemail.html I can supply a SmarCard with SE8. However, this may not fix the problem.
