s-4100 issues

Post by nighvideo »

Gentlemen... I have issues.... I contacted Marcro about an issue in the record menu. When I video photos (as in transfers for montages) the photo mode shuts down after a few minutes. They suggested to change the default setting and disengage the 30 minute off thing. That did not work. So I began shooting the photos in real time which is much better imageing than the frame grab the s-4100 is capable of producting anyway. Continueing on.. I edited a wedding, and after I rendered it, played it back and all the scenes were out of order, and random. 14 hours of work down the tubes. The weird thing is that the storyboard looked fine, the playback was not. It was almost like the scenes where hidden or attached to other scenes. Of course macro suggested re-installing, and it didnt work. Any suggestions? The project was shot and edited in SD. At this point.. a refurbished Prestige and continuing with SD is very enviting. i still say HD is too early yet. I have a dozen weddings booked thus far for 2011, and nobody wants HD. Thanks

Stating that your SB was in order, apparently there are migrating clips from corrupted material.

Try this:

.Make an entire SCENE of your storyboard

.Using your CLIPBOARD function, import the above

.Open up an empty project window and designate that project window to your current format

.Export to your scene bin the transferred clip

.OPEN up the "SPECIAL" window

.Scroll to NOP and apply NOP to the clip in your scene bin

.Apply to your SB

NOTE: It may be easier to just place the clip on the SB, go to IP and ADD NOP. Upon completion of applying NOP, make that a SCENE as well.

I have both the s4000PRO and s4100 and an producing some pristine HD videos. I think the problem here is a corrupt clip(s)-possibly the photos.

Thanks for your input Lou... you are certaninly more help than Macro. I feel I have a faulty unit, they wont get back to me with an RMA, any answers they want to charge for, and my friend (attoryney) wants to get envolved (which should not be necessary). Anyway... I dumped the project.. figured it would be easier starting clean. Anything else than just a simple re-install? I'm telling ya.. My old prestige (now going on 9years, and the original 2.1c OS still works fine. A little noisy with the fan, but no hang ups. If these problems occur with simple SD, I cant imagine what HD will be like. Thanks again..Pat

Don't give up with your S4000. I've been editing with mine in HDV and AVCHD for all my recent projects without serious problems.

Thanks Lou.. You are so experienced with this system. Should just pay you instead of Macro. I just did a full install so we'll see if that fixes it. It's just the thought of 14 hours worth of editing going down the tubes is discouraging. And the fact that I have 15 weddings booked thus far for 2011 and no one wants HD. I only get a grand as it is, and try to add a couple hundred for HD to re-coop the cost of the blank Blu-ray and they look at me like I'm crazy. Western New York has a small mentality, and small pockets. And by the time the photogs get done with them, none of their budget is left. I almost feel like going DSLR and telling the photogs to stay home! but I have enough headaches without adding to them with stills. Thanks man for letting me vent. Pat

Hi Pat

I know how you feel about the so called photographers here in Australia brides spend thousands of dollars
on there photo's and don't want to pay much for there video's even though we come with a lot more
equipment than just a camera and a flash. Not to say about the time we spend on the day ( usualy they
leave the wedding once the reception starts while we go all the way to the end) or the time we spend
editing it all together. The so called new photograghers (people who buy a digital SLR and they are a Photogragher)
have less costs than years a go when they had to pay for development now they just burn it on a 20 cent disk and thats it
but they charge a lot more than what they used to do.
Our equipment is very expencive but we can't charge it out to the brides as if you charge to much you don't get the job.
I believe our job is a lot harder than the photographers who don't need to worry about sound or cropping the picture at the
time of the shoot they will crop it later properly when they get back home.

I will get out of the wedding scene as soon as i finish the last booked ones as I some times get abused by a priests even
before I have filmed anything. They just think they are god themselfs ( if he even excist ?)
and try tell me where I can stand and how to film the ceremony.

Sorry for all this but I just got abused yesterday so I had to get it of my chest.
I can't help you with your problem as I don't edit in HD as there is for me no extra money in it.
Good luck with MS US they are a bit slack not giving you free support on such an expensive machine.

Well first of all there is a God, but probably does not exist in their church.LOL... When I get strict restrictions in a church setting I simply let the bride and groom know the restrictions set forth by the priest or minister. That lets me off the hook. And trust me when I tell you, i don not run around in the church but I also do not want to shoot the back of their heads the whole time either. It seems that the experienced videographer is more eye trained and frame minded than the photog, and more tuned in with the composition with the whole thing, but has never gotten the respect. At least not in my 25 years of service. The bride and groom wont think twice about renting linen chair covers that will end up costing more than the video, but when they get the final produced wedding movie they state how much better it is than the photos. Problem here is they still compare video to photo, and it is two different forms of art. Photojournalistic simply means you did'nt pose the subject and got lucky with the shot. Of course shooting unlimited pics on memory card facilitateds that whole concept. Years ago when they had to pay for film development, that term never existed. Anyway, my system seems to be ok now. I did a complete new intall of all the software. Thanks to Lou Bruno who is really a cool guy, and Gary McNally who sold me my unit. Both were more than will to help me for "free". Macro never got in touch. Pat

To Lou Bruno... my new install seemed to work. My photo mode for creating montages works. Thanks for all your help!
