Audio sync....Help

I have a new S4100 done only 2 jobs.

1 job was using input from SD card via a Panasonic camera the other input via Sony camera with a DV tape via fire wire.

On both occasions lip sync was wrong.

With the 1st job I talked to someone who told me to go into settings and change the av sync. I guessed at 30 and it seemed to work.

On the second job using the Sony camera, the same sync issue happened. Tried all sorts of alterations in the av sync settings with no luck despite many tries.

As it happens, this job is a very urgent one and the issue is causing me a great deal of stress.


If you have a solution, please let me know, as I am pulling my hair out and I haven't got much left anyway!

My old Kron never gave me these problems

I keep hearing of people having audio/video sync problems with these generation 3 editors.
You say your old Kron never gave you such a problem.
Likewise, I never had any sync problems when I had a Kron.
I currently use a Renomee Plus, and shoot multi camera projects using HDV camcorders, and after I firewire the footage into the Reno, and find the common starting point of each film, (i.e. a hand clap or a still camera flash) all cameras stay in perfect sync.
Sorry I can't offer you any help with your problem, but isn't it odd that these sync problem only happens with generation 3 editors.
Sounds like another bug MS needs to fix.

I have the same issue with my s4100. I import mp4 files via usb and the sound is way out of sync. i have to finish projects by guessing on where to place the sound clip so as to synchronize as best possible. lots of wasted time doing this and not always with the best results. I also have the problem with the unit just going "poof" everything goes away and the only way to get back into the system is to shut it off by unplugging the unit from the wall...i can't even shut it down manually. this can happen four or five, even seven times in a four hour session when i am rendering short clips. very odd. i am really disappointed with the unit. lots of bugs. makes me want to buy a mac and learn how to use it after so many years with casablanca's easy interface, which was ideal for me. i had put a lot of faith in bogart os hoping that it would be a better os than the smart edit of my avio and prestige units i had before, and i don't even push the limits of the machine since i am not a professional video editor.

I never have sync problems with my tape based Z1 HDV. Now since it is almost inevitable to use my DSLR or my Sony AVCHD cameras, I am feeling everyone's pain seeing the initial audio registering dead-on and just falls into a degraded match down the line.

My advice? just edit away...then do bulk scene-sample audio and dub in part or the entire project when done. You may even have to do a scene of the entire project, export it separately in Clipboard and render the film from a different project into Arabesk for burning.

The Bogart driven Macrosystem units are not perfect systems, but there are seemingly means available and work-arounds that are easy to resort to than the other editing systems out there (Plus this forum...and Chet are always there to provide evasive answers/and or technical fixes.)
