Titling slanted on my avio editor

Hello,
I have an Avio editor. Just recently, when I use my titling and I go to put it on a dvd, it comes on the screen, slanted. None of the effects in titling have a green arrow next to the ones I am able to use, like they used to be. Since my editor is so old, but does a great job still, a friend told me I probably needed to udate it by putting in my smart edit card and reinstalling the software. I put the card in, notch to the left, and copper side down, with the unit off, and nothing came up on the monitor screen, just blank. I took the card out and went to the community forum and it said to put the card in the way I just said with unit off, then to turn it on. I was afraid to turn the unit back on as it said on my instructions for inserting the card not to. Should I have then turned it on and would I have seen the prompts on the screen then? I would appreciate any help that anyone could give me here as I have a couple wedding to put titling on and I can't do anything till I get this straightened out. Does anyone know if reinstalling the software smart card would resolve my current problem. I would appreciate any help that anyone could give me. Thanks so much. Frustrated!

We need more information from you. What model Avio do you own? Are you burning the DVD with the Avio or an external burner? What operating system are you using? Are you using one or two monitors?
When you turn on the Avio now without the card in the slot, what happens?
You wrote,

Where did the instructions not to try inserting the card a second time come from?

Thank you for your time to reply. I guess the question I want to know, is, would re-installing my software with my smart edit card, possibly cure the problem of my titling being slanted? If so, what is the process of installing the card? Is this right? put the card in with notch on left and copper side down with unit off, and once the card is in, then turn the unit back on, and follow the prompts?
Much to my embarrassment, I think I misread the instructions on inserting my software smart edit card that came with the unit. I thought that after inserting it, the prompts would automatically appear on my monitors screen without turning the unit back on. They did not, and I paniced, and just took the card out nervous about turning the unit back on. Rethinking what I did, I now feel I should have turned the unit back on in order to see the prompts of what to do next. Would this be correct?
I was a little hesitant on using this forum, but to my delightful surprise, find it very helpful, and a pleasure meeting others who share the same intersts and problems they encounter, not to mention very helpful kind people, willing to help others, like yourself. Thank you for being so helpful. Lee (

Hello Lee,
I have not seen nor heard of the issue you are wrestling with - slanted titles.
Is it possible this is an issue with your monitor? (perhaps unlikely, but have to cover all potential 'bases'). Can you describe the issue more clearly -- how is is slanted, it is on the horizontal, etc. As you may know, some of the Title Effects software allows you to adjust your titles in the screen space (on the X, Y and Z axis).
And I do not think an OS installation would cure this, but if it has been awhile and if your AVIO is an older unit with an earlier version of the Smart Edit OS it would not hurt to perform a clean installation of the OS.
Which version of the Smart Edit OS are you working with, by the way?
Regards,
Chet

Hello Lee,
There is a button in the titler to create letters that are "Italics". Is this the slant that your are seeing....or is it a different distortion type look?
Like Chet has asked, which operating system are you using. An Avio can go from Version 1.0 all the way up to the more recent 9.1 operating system.
Remember that a complete instal will wipe your hard drive clean and any work that you have on it and all the add on programs will be erased and need to be re-installed too. If you do an update of the Operating System instead of a complete destructive instal, it keeps your work intact and all your add on programs, but also keeps any bugs that might have crept into the system over these 10 years that the AVIO has been out there.
So try an update first to see if that helps, but if it doesn't help....the full destructive wipe it all clean and start over again, full instal should fix any bugs or corruption that have crept in to the software.
