Bogart 4 issues

Today I did a full destructive install of OS 4.1c on my S4000 Pro. Hoping after 2 years that I would finally get a dependable OS that I could actually use to make money. My first real cash project in 2 years is to transfer some 8 mm film and export it to an external hard drive or use disk transfer. The set up is: a 3 chip DSR PD 170 camera feeding S video to a TBC to make adjustment to color, black level, hue, and brightness on the fly. From the TBC a S-Video cable goes directly to the S 4000 Pro's rear S video input. The very first 3.5 min film, the OS shut down on it's own after clicking on the record button. after several seconds, it appeared to come back up in the opening window. After opening the record window and starting over, it recorded the WHOLE 3.5 minutes. However, periodically there would be groups of green pixels of corrupt frames. These corrupt frames were noticeable and created an audible beep in the audio even though I was not recording any audio. The next 6 - 3.5 min films recorded without incident. The seventh reverted back to the drop to black screen upon selecting the record button and then recovering to the opening screen after 15 - 20 seconds. The 7th film has been recorded twice with corrupt films spoiling the scene on both recordings. Anyone else having this experience???? The OS file was from MSUS with the License code included with the disc.

To fix this issue:

.System

.Record/playback

.UNCHECK (leave it to a dash) DV/HDV

.You will see a GRAY screen during importation. This should work. Watch your counter. There is a workaround to observe the 'footage/material." You would have to re-route the output on the analog side of your deck/camera and connect directly to your monitor.

Thanks Lou. I'll give it a try. If that doesn't work, maybe I can stand on one leg, rub my stomach and pat myself on the head.

Bob,

Nope, that is the procedure to input JPEGs and to my knowledge does not work for anything else since they discontinued Smart Cards.

Well, that didn't fix either problem Lou. I re-ran the last problem film and it recorded without incident. :D Then I started a new reel and before It had hardly gotten started the S4000 Pro shut down and re-started all on it's own. The film recorded Ok on the next attempt. The third film recorded without shutting down, BUT had numerous frames of green pixelized corrupt frames. There seems to be about 5 groups of corruption of 4 - 6 pixels each on each corrupt frame. The corrupt pixels span 1 - 2 frames. This is the exact same set-up I have used on thousands of feet of film without incident on my Reno plus. The cables were simply swapped from the Renommee Plus to the S 4000 Pro. I remembered that early on before I bought an HDMI monitor, I had to get a special S-video cable from MSUS to use my Sony PVM monitor. With that in mind I changed to a different S-video cable in case the S4k was picky about the cable I was using. That seemed to correct the problem for about 6 - 50 ft films. The next 300 ft film had corrupt pixels through out the full length of the file.I also removed the TBC from the chain and went direct from the camera to the S4k pro. No change. In the interest of not going broke, I guess I will have to revert to the Renommee Plus and provide the customer with data DVDs using Disk Transfer instead of loading onto the hard drive. I may try doing a disk transfer, transferring to the S4k and then downloading to an external HD to see if that is an option.

P.S. Since I am not inputting to the S 4000 Pro using firewire or HD subject matter, the video out still shows the video that is being recorded even though I unchecked the record/play option.

All joking aside, I spent a lot of money for the S 4000 Pro with most software including CB Paint, have purchased all chargeable new operating software updates and still can't do the simplest possible job of recording straight analog video with not as much as a cross fade without corrupt frames ruining the entire program. Every project I have attempted on this machine has incurred more time and effort trying to make it work than the value of the project. It was my opinion that if I would be patient, MSUS would eventually provide an OS that would be dependable and bullet proof for most applications. For me that has not happened. OS 4 ain't it and I am not a happy camper!!! Patience SUCKS

Single or 2 monitor mode ? if 2 try single as a Aussie user has had problems importing footage using 2 monitor mode and Bogart 4.1

I'm using 3.6 and have no problems apart from one tape that displayed with black bars top and bottom but i ended up convinced that was the way it had been recorded.

Thats very frustrating to hear Bob I'm still on Bo 3.6 and use MOV files exclusively with no problem whatsoever.
I'm still waiting to load Bo 4.... yes I'm nervous about it.
