Claro

Anyone used one of these and has any opinions on them, I may be looking to buy a second hand one.
I know they are DV only but this is for use with an HDV camera for taking a DV feed, editing and putting back straight into the camera on location and it hopefully would be a bit lighter than carrying around my Avio DV.
My back isn't what it used to be.
Thanks,

G'day Martin,
I'm very much a tyro on the finer points of electronic workings, but I do have a Claro. They are a remarkable machine, but what I can gather from extensive inquiries, they are for tape input only. So unless you can devise some means of converting your HDV to tape for firewire input I reckon you're on a loser. It seems Casablanca has a firm policy of elementary and cheaper and upmarket and horribly expensive machines and nothing in between.

It seemed the world was calling for a cheaper Casablanca, Macro produced it and no one bought it
It's a really nice unit, fairly quick, well built for travelling and easy (two thumb screws) to get into - should you wish to use multiple drives for storage.

Hi Barrie,
Thanks for the reply and also to Michael, apologies I may have used the wrong terminology, our HD cam is a Sony that films to DV tape. It is used to film soccer matches where we film to an AVIO at home games and zap highlights around the ground and for away games (which means carting it up ladders onto gantries) I still do highlights but these are put back onto tape so our press officer doesn't have to do all the editing when he gets home as the highlights are shown on the club's website.
It does seem that it may be easier to carry around.
I will see what the gentleman wants for it.
Thanks again,
