The DVI out to HDMI cable on the S4100 does not have sound. Never did transfer sound. It is probably in your Bogart manual.

Thanks, Bruno. I do understand that DVI out to HDMI doesn't carry sound. However, I connected HDMI straight out to HDMI. I thought that HDMI carries sound. Is that connection still on future hold on the s4100?

You are correct that HDMI is designed to transfer both video and audio, and Lou is correct that a DVI>HDMI adapter does not transfer audio as the DVI only transfers video (there are special adapters that take the audio from your audio jacks and video from DVI).
It sounds like JP is trying to use the HDMI jack on the back of his S4100 - reviewing my notes I see that upon release the S4100's HDMI jack did not function (it is there but did not output a signal). I have a vague memory indicating that was updated but cannot find any info to substantiate that - if you don't get the reply here from another colleague running the S4100 (I don't have that model) I would recommend a quick call to Macrosystem US to verify.
Regards,
Chet

JP: The HDMI port under the DVI output has been around since the issuance of the S4100. It does not function, I guess that is why MSUS issues the DVI to HDMI adapters to transfer the video.
In BOGART 4 the HDMI on my unit does not function and I have the latest update available. It never did display a picture via the HDMI port via a HDMI cable.
Q: Are you coming out of the HDMI outputport on the rear and actually observing a picture or do you have an HDMI cable attached to a DVI adaptor?
If exporting OUT from the HDMI port: Bogart 4.1A? Did the port function in BOGART 3.2 3.6? Is the S4100 a later purchased model? Hardware upgrade in later models? Curious. Thanks.

Depending on your actual Bogart version go to Media Manager, Tools, No 3 then No 6.
Set digital out over HDMI and no checkmark at the box "HDMI in DD" - i.e. a minus sign not a tick . . . (I hope NTSC is the same) . . .

The answer is to use the TV HDMI cable via the converter connector to DVI and take the sound separately via the audio stereo output terminals to the TV or a separate amplifier.
I have the S4000pro and have had this set up for about 2 years now. I understand the design spec for DVI was a robust professional connector never intended to carry audio. The HDMI connector was designed as a relatively flimsy consumer connector to carry audio as well. It was also intended to carry a handshake signal to ensure that high definition signals could not be connected to a recorder to stop piracy. I would be surprised if Cassi ever had an HDMI output included in the spec as it an editor and we expect to be able to record from it. If you regularly plug and unplug an HDMI connector it will wear out very quickly. The S4000 spec says DVI/HDMI output (HDMI via adapter)

Agree...same here.

HDMI to HDMI. I am curious with the response. My port is 'dead.'
I have to use the same adaptor as Alan.

Me too, on the S4000. But although the S4100's HDMI port didn't originaly work it does now, depending on how up to date and what version of Bogart - I can't remember which (v2.? / v3.? / v4.?) and was never told
Just had a guy who's moved all his equipment from one place to another and now has an HDMI TV (instead of the old SCART one).
Connected up and selected HDMI in Bogart / Screen and got picture and no sound.
Changed the settings in Media Manager and now he has both . . . he is on v4.1f though.

PAL version is 50P in HDMI mode. This may be why HDMI if jittery and jumpy? I forgot to set my setting to HDMI on the S4100. Like to hear from the original poster.
Can you get the setting for media manager HDMI with Audio please even though it is 4.1F PAL?
