I have not used my Solitaire plus in 10 months. How solid is 9.1 with input of firewire or composit video in. Will be using it this week to record 3 cams from a mx1 Pro. Hope to use fire wire. Is droped frames a isue? Arabesk 4.1g, screen 1 vga 1280 x 1024, screen 2 Video 4:3
Please advise
Roger

9.1 on my Ren + has been stellar, so far. Have loaded in only with composite thus far, with no problems. The new features it has definitely make it worth the cost. Have not done a firewire load-in.

Related to Smart Edit; I have ver. 7 right now. Curious, if I buy SE 9 but find I don't like those audio changes, can I install Ver. 8 since I would now have ver. 9? Otherwise, I might be tempted to go with ver. 8 - is 8 pretty solid?

Thanks,

John

With smart Edit 8 I had lip sync problems on programs that were more than 50 minutes long and Arabesk 4 aggravated the problem even more on my Renommee Plus. No problems with short programs. YMMV!

If you upgraded from SE7 to SE9 you could if you wished go back to SE7 but you would not have a license number for SE8. Buying an SE9 license does not give you a license for SE8 (in Europe anyway, US might be different?)

It's the same in the USA, you get what you pay for.

Just finished my first project with SE9.1 on my Prestige. Everything went well until I tried to make a few audio adjustments up and down. Every four or five adjustments would cause the machine to either freeze or greet me with the red box of death. Is this because it is trying to render the audio automatically? Never had this many problems with SE6.2.

Is smart rendering ON?

I just checked to be sure...smart rendering is off. SE9 was a clean install and the harddrive is only 12% full, just the one project. One camera mic used automatic gain and the other camera got a patch from the sound board but was not too hot. Input into the Casablanca was via firewire. The check for overmodulation came back OK.

I have worked on someone else's Prestige with SE8 and had no audio issues whatsoever. Any ideas regarding SE9 would be appreciated.

Before you start trying to tweak audio try switching to an empty project and then back to your working project. If you're already editing the audio, switch to an empty project's edit screen and then back to your working project before your editor hits the wall at 4 or 5 audio adjustments. In fact when I do this I switch to an empty project, go to the Edit screen, hit the Record button in the lower right hand corner of the screen, hit the OK button to back out of the Record screen (you are not recording anything into the editor), and then switch back to my working project. These steps seem to help the editor reclaim memory. I always do this when experimenting with different settings for special effects and it seems to help.
