I'm new to Bogart and wondering . . .

Post by videojim »

What's Media Manager do/ for? I am wondering what you do with thie part of the machine? Also, I am wondering if I need to know what kind of digital signal I am feeding from my Nikon D90, feeding an HDV signal to it, through the USB connection? I want to go out and shoot some test footage to see how to load up with my camera and new editor. Ideas? Anybody else shooting with a D90?

Hi Jim,
As far as MM is concerned its hard to list everything it does here on the BB (I would suggest you get Chet's DVD on this) but I mostly use it for inputing music & audio files.
I also use it to create a High Rez HD ready video files to be uploaded online. (Vimeo/Youtube its better quality than the new feature in Bo 4)
I am afraid that I might have bad news for you. I just checked the specs on your Nikon D90 and correct me if I'm wrong but it _only_ shoots 24p...and only 720p :(
I have tested 24p using my Canon 5D & 7D in Bogart 4.1g. I have found the footage to be very strobe & the audio from the camera is a fiasco... completely out of sync.
In 30p everything is find and dandy + I prefer that look to 24p anyways so thats good !

I am not familiar with other Nikon SLR's but
for the same price the Canon T2i shoots in
1920 x 1080 at 30p (29.97), 24p (23.976) or 25p.

1280 x 720 at 60p (59.94) or 50p.

640 x 480 at 60p (59.94) or 50p.

Just giving you my feedback.

Good Luck & wlcm to HDSLR's

Syl,
The highest P is 720, but it does have a setting for 1080I, so that's where I'll shoot. Busy playing with both 90's, one with an 18-200 and the other with 28-300, both Tamron. Will be interesting to see how the pictures differ with the lenses. lookin forward to doin some shooting at the city skate park tomorrow. You post with the S6000, Syl?

1080i that's good ! whats the frame rate ? I think Bogart only handles 60i or 30p properly (my findings anyway)
I used a Tamron 24-70mm once and was satisfied with the image but the zoom/focus ring was very slow/hard to manipulate but like I said the image was stellar.
I now have 3 S-4100 & I find them & 4.1g very solid :)

keep us/me posted with your new toy !

Need to find out how Nikon adjusts the frame rate. Doesn't have a lot on the video side in the way of adjustment. BTW, it was the D90, with the 28-300 that reached in and got that shuttle shot from 12 miles away!
