disk transfer

Post by jeffphilips »

What does it take to do a disk transfer? I made a data dvd, but the system says "failed to read dvd". I also tried it with a cd, but no luck.
I am trying to transfer over some of digital juices animations without having to put them to tape. I have digital hotcakes dvds, which I assumed were data dvds. These are read fine with the renommee.

It's pretty finicky Jeff.

When creating the AVI of these Digital Juice files it takes specific parameters (not sure exactly what they are).

I know Sony Vegas 8, it's predecessors and junior member variations create MSUS compatible AVI files as long as you check Microsoft AVI codecs and Ignore 3rd Party Codec in Preference.

However, the actual burning to DVD requires specific parameters (not sure exactly what they are either) as well.

An earlier Nero version was compatible, but then they changed the burning engine somewhat and it no longer is compatible.

I use Ashampoo Burning Studio 8 (7 and 6 worked as well) to burn compatible data Disk Transfer DVDs.

It is easier to direct transfer via firewire or ethernet if the location of PC/Mac and MSUS equipment makes this possible.

the discs have to be created in the "UDF" format (not ISO) in order to be supported by the Disc Transfer software - you probably will find this setting in any CD burning software...

Thank you to both of you.

Tim,
Are you saying that I play the avi file on my pc and firewire it into the msus?

Yes, this is the path I normally use with my Solitaire.

It requires a software that will relinguish controll of the external device (aka: some sort of Manual override).

I use Sony Vegas for this as well which requires me to go into Options, Preferences and uncheck the "Enable DV device Control".

There are other programs that work including the free Windows Movie Maker and http://windv.mourek.cz/ when I tested them for this a couple of years ago for my Moline Seminar.

I still have the Seminar PowerPoint online http://www.videosonics.biz/MGT.pdf which lists the various methods of getting into and out of our boxes.

Most, if not all of it should still be valid.

I created that on SE4 and I don't think any of the changes of SE5,6 or 7 invalidate any of it.
