i have tried the camera and then tried a hd deck to import firewire into my s4000 and it's stops at different places and the longest time it recorded was around 2 to 3 minutes. i'm thinking of trying to go from the hd deck, hdmi out to a computer that has hdmi in . once the footage is in the computer, i want to put the footage on a card, then get a card reader and import the footage via usb card reader. i haven't tried yet, i don't have a computer with hdmi in yet, but i can't think of any better way. maybe my idea is crazy if anyone has a better idea, please let me know.

Sounds like your footage might have gaps or at least the S4100 is seeing it that way apparently.

How about recording the footage via firewire from your cam to your deck (which should be lossless and eliminate any gaps or signal problems) and then try to firewire that footage in.

Are you using an external drive? How full is your drive?
I have found exactly the same problem with 1TB external drive once I get to about 70% full!

Is the HD preview turned on or off in the machine you are recording to? Look in your system settings. Try turning off the preview when you are recording.
