I put 2 scenes in the storyboard, and went to the transition menu, picked out PIP Studio2, and the mouse froze! Had to reset the machine, shut it down, re-start, and all was fine. happen to anybody else?
Also, is anybody doing the Eye Candy series ending up with the scenes used in PIP Studio 2 having a black border on either side? They don't show up that way in the training video, of course, but they do in my S6000, with the project settings at 720 x 640, like he specified.

Two or three weeks back, I was having similar problems, which sometimes came as an arrow freeze, but more often the screen would go black. In all cases I had to press the reset button on my S6K. On one occasion I lost a whole days work, since it stated it was having to restore to an earlier backup.
I had in the past just done updates and in some cases had more than one version of a program installed. e.g. two versions of Arabesk
After performing an HDD backup, I did a complete new installation of the Operating system, reloaded just the latest programs and did a backup reinstall.
Touch wood I have not had any crashes since.
Our tech contact in the UK, Michael D, suggests a full installation rather than updates, since bits of the old program can remain and cause problems.

Ian,
OK, may have to do that. Will have to ask Ken how this is done, as I understand the program codes need to be saved. Thanks for the help. Begins to make regret the investment, but I have to wonder if folks using other editing systems don't have the same problems, whether their system is one-box or software in a tower PC.

Jim,
I would recommend breaking your post here into two separate posts as there are two separate issues.
Regarding your stated difficulty importing MOV files - do you know what resolution the MOV files were shot at?
If it's 24P or 60P that WILL likely be an issue.
If you're 30P or 60i you should be seeing some degree of success here.
To archive (save) your software activation codes - see this article on my website:

As for your re-install issue, it is quite easy, although it does take a little time to complete.
If you look at this topic I replied to earlier
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3769 I have detailed the back-up and saving licence codes you will need to do a full install. Also if you have archived effects or colours, it also describes how to do this.
When you do a full Install there are a couple of other things that I recommend you do prior to using (recording onto) the machine.
In Project you'll need to change the Image setting to Large or Full - not that important but once done it stays like that.
In Settings, Record Playback you'll need to change the Cut Recognition to Start Code (or it won't auto split properly) and then where it says Display During DV/HDV Recording that needs to be changed from a 'check mark' to a 'minus' sign.
