Arabesk seems to hang up about 1/3 through the storyboard. I have taken each scene on the story board one at a time and they seem to go through arabesk fine. Does anyone know why this happens to the full storyboard? 111 min long.
It would be nice if the software people would be able to figure out a way to stop the scene and show it on the monitor then we would be able to correct the problem.
This has happened in the past and I just burnt the project to a dvd via firewire then loaded the dvd back in to the Avio and the arabesk worked??

That normally means it is a Transition that is causing the freeze.

Why this happens I do not have a clue, but normally removing the Transition and putting it back in takes care of the issue.

If you have additional audio tracks doing this can screw your Project up so you would want to do this with caution in that case, notating the exact frames on the Storyboard that the additional audio tracks are and their various settings to put them back in.

You don't have to remove/add all the Transitions though, the progress bar is relatively accurate.

So if you are saying it goes about a third of the way and freezes I would look to do this remove/add of a Transition(s) in that area alone.

The NOP with audio process would fix the problem regardless, but it's fairly render intensive for an entire Storyboard on the Avio.

Not sure if exporting to digital tape and back would be faster.

You could try making a Scene of the entire Storyboard, Clipboard it to another Project and Split it where you want the Chapter Points to be and try that.

It is not as sure as the NOP with audio process, but is a heck of a lot faster to do on an Avio.

And yes, it would be nice if this too finicky Add Film issue could be fixed.

I've had much better luck with Arabesk by creating a scene for each chapter. I name the scenes 1, 2, 3, ... and clipboard them to a new project. That seems to help avoid problems and makes chaptering easier as well.

I have burned dozens of PAL-DVDs but never had the described issue.
Maybe this is only NTSC related?

You may have a point here Hans, I too have never had this problem, after many DVD projects.

I have Tim’s fix at hand, but hopefully will continue never to need it. Now there’s tempting fate.

Have Hans and I just been lucky, it would be nice to know if there is anyone in PAL land that has had this problem.

This can also happen in PAL land. But we don't know the cause for this problem yet.

JPaul, during this process of creating a scene for each chapter, are you doing this in the storyboard, then moving them to a blank project before sending the project to Arabesk?

I always make a *Scene of the whole film prior to adding to Arabesk and then split it into chapters in a new project.
(If you name them at this point it makes setting up and naming chapters so much easier in Arabesk).

*If there are any problems with the footage (or transitions) then this process normally fails and then you know something is up.

That is the method I use as well.

Make a Scene of the Storyboard, Clipboard to empty Project, Split to Chapters, naming them appropriately, Add them to the Storyboard and enter Arabesk.

Thanks everyone for the great advice on making the whole project to a scene, etc. before dumping into Arabesk. Once I got the sequence of the process down (easy), I find that chaptering in Arabesk is so much easier, my projects are long (this one is 30 hours), so knowing how to avoid glitches is very time saving.
