I have gone through hours of trial and travail to create a video, only to burn a disk and have my laptop tell me that the disk "cannot play the disk in this part of the world". Has MSUS given me a PAL burner? WHAT'S GOIN ON? Dennis and MSUS have ONE PISSED CUSTOMER!!!!! This video was created to be shown at a banquet tomorrow night. This happen to anybody else?

The message on my laptop reads- Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because the disc prohibits playback in your region of the world. You must obtain a disc that is intended for your geographic region.

A lot of folks (particularly, I believe, in the US) are less aware that there are Region Codes on all DVDs that are commercially produced. It is a different issue entirely than the Color Standard (PAL, NTSC, etc.)

This is an effort to circumvent piracy into other countries (if I had to guess that would be directed at certain countries in Asia and Eastern Europe). I drafted an article on this topic some time ago here Jim: http://cassieexpert.live.subhub.com/articles/20100820. If you have not already done so I would try it in another player or two to see your results.

But it was/is my understanding the Arabesk/Casablanca burners do not impart a Region Code. Perhaps that has changed with the latter software? If so - it's news to me!

Regards,
Chet

You may have changed the Region Code (on your Laptop) or it might not be set correctly in the first place.

You could try checking the DVD drive region set.

To do this, click Start, click Computer, right click the DVD drive and then click Properties.
Click Hardware tab, click Properties button and check/change the DVD region . . .

I believe that you can only do this 4 or 5 times and then it becomes "fixed" in the system.

You might want to download VLC player instead as I believe that this could play the files directly from the DVD disk too.

It shouldn't matter what region the player is set for. As Chet said, Cassies do not encode a region code.

Dennis @ Macrosystem says it sounds like a software issue, that it should NOT be a major one. We will see.

Do you have Arabesk set to "verify disc" once burned?

GOT IT FIXED!!! After an extended phone call with Dennis during which I reinstalled 4.1G, deleted and reinstalled Arabesk, and burned a disk, it came down to the disk being wrong! I don't know which brand re-writable DVD I have, but I tried using a Tai-Yuden DVD-R, and THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY! Dennis is going to email me about which brands are safe, and I will post that when I get it. Gee, don't I wish ALL the fixes were that easy!?
Originally, it was during a klatsch where Seth was involved that I started thinking DVD-RW's were a good idea. Chet says he does a first burn on a DVD-RW so, he can look over the completed task, to look for problems, glitches, mistakes, etc. Then he can go back into the same DVD and re-burn it without having to burn another disk after fixing the project. But, I will stick with my Tai-Yo's and wait to hear about a brand that burns well before using RW's again. Who else in here has a brand that works for them in RW's?

The brand of the DVD-RW should be on the disc, you can also go in to Arabesk and under "MISCELLANEOUS" you will find "MEDIA INFO" select and it will ask you to put a disc in and tell you all about or do a search on Google for PC sofyware that will do the same.

I use DVD-RW for every film i do in Arabesk and the only problem i get is when Arabesk won't erase disc then i put same disc in my PC and erase using Windows erase feature and no more problems till the next time when i just repeat.

The DVD-RW discs i use in the UK are Dattawrite or Ridisc
