Clipboarding SD into HDV in Renommee SE 8.1

I just tried the various settings for clipboarding (importing) SD 4:3 scenes into an HDV project. In the Edit mode it's Special > Clipboard > Options > DV4:3 <=> HDV 16:9. The choices are Borders, Distortion, Panorama - with a box to check or uncheck that says "import trimmed scenes." I don't see any difference in the result - they all seem to "stretch" the 4:3 image to fit. I was hoping "Borders" would give me the "pillar box" effect where it displays vertical black "sides" left and right. Are all these effects NOT visible in the Edit screen? Do the various changes only become visible after the "Finish" process? Thanks in advance for helping a Gen 2 guy.

I have never had luck either with the clipboard 4:3>16:9.... unless I am doing something wrong. It is either distorted, or pillarboxed, stretched etc. I have tried Cine Converter and another software that skips my mind right now but the results were never a full 16:9 aspect filling the entire screen.

The only solution I found is to use the BORDER HD style software and place the clip within the 16:9 border.

Hello Robert,

I have found the Clipboard functions for modifying aspect ratios in the SE 8 and I believe the Bogart V2 OS were not functioning...they are there but did not work for me either. I just checked however running Smart Edit V9.1 and the clipboard option to add borders as I moved a scene between a 16:9 project and a 4:3 project did function properly (in this case adding letter-boxing).

So - the long and short of it is that I had to move to SE9 to have that function work for me.

Regards,
Chet

Thanks for the input, gentlemen. Based on Chet's description I may have to get SE 9.1 - I think Gary McNally may still be a source for Gen 2 software. I will also ask him if the SmartEdit OS is still avaliable for PCs at this late date - and where it is priced ...
