Arabesk 5 - Conflicting info on BR disc creation settings

Post by Rte80west »

Hi all

Had a few questions regarding Arabesk 5.

In the manual (p 10), it states that the "quality setting must at least be set to High (24 MBit) in order to obtain neccessary data rate" in regard to creating a Blu Ray disc.

In Arabesk 5.4 Release Notes it is indicated that it is reccommended to use 18 MBit and Normal rendering for compatability with most DVD players when burning Blu Ray discs. 18 MBit is the Medium setting.

Obviously, this is conflciting info. What settings SHOULD be used? Also, it indicates to use Normal rendering. My understanding was its best to always use the highest rendering setting as it is just the thoroughness of the image clarification and did not know it would be an issue with players. Oddly, there is no statement made regarding rendering settings in the Arabesk manual on p. 10. A description of that setting and consequence of choices was skipped over.

Here is the scoop:

18 bits is a universal bit rate that appeared to work in many different Blu-ray players w/o issues such as stuttering, skipping etc. You can also set it to 18/Normal.

INTENSIVE means a longer rendering time because there are actually two passes. NORMAL works well.

24 bits: Samsung Blu-rays worked well. However, there were some stuttering issues with certain SONY's that were tested.

32Bits: Do NOT use this setting for PlayStation3. This is a high quality setting. SAMSUNG worked. However, this setting is way above the 17 bits that are produced in ARABESK 4. I imagine this bit rate will have its issues with certain models while other will work.

Nota Bene: I can't really see any BIG difference above 18 bits and 18 bits look outstanding. 24 bits MAY be a little cleaner in dark, I mean REAL dark areas. Nobody will notice same.

In closing....use 18 bits for clients and versatility. The others, experiment with for your own personal use OR if you know what works with your client. This is NOT an ARABESK shortcoming but rather the same issue we had in place with the early DVD players sold to the public. Also, with the advent of the new Render Booster hardware many slow rendering issues if not all will be a "thing of the past."

I hope this helps you.

Lou,

Thanks for tips. I just upgraded to latest Bogart version but I still burned BluRay DVD with prior version and my discs worked fine in Samsung players but there was always a sync issue between audio and video when played on SONY players. I would not have characterized it as stuttering, it was just that the audio track would "jump" ahead of the video track... anyway, it sounds like it may be along the same lines as what you're describing.

I will play around with this and hopefully it will work out. Thanks again.
