Suggestions for Macrosystem

Post by JBrooks »

Hi Cassie friends,

I want to encourage everyone to voice your suggestions to Macrosystem by using the e-mail link below:

suggestions@macrosystem.us

Macrosystem has invited everyone to do this and to be very specific as to why you would like to see a particular feature added to our great Casablanca systems.

I sent my updated wish list in yesterday.

Done ! tks Joel :)
Here is what I sent off:
- I would love to have more control over my RAW video images.... so a better sophisticated "Control Image" for colour grading would be awesome !
- More Colour Filters a la "Magic Bullett"
- ability to edit in 24p & 60p my experience has not been good using HDSLR's and 24p.... 60p turns to 30p during import :(
- Having Twixtor work the same as with interlace in Progressive Mode

Tks

I have been asking for a more feature rich color grading tool for years. Control image is a joke when it comes to color timing your shots. Most of the folks i have run into over the years that cut with the Casablanca shoot very vividly saturated images. I have always shot just the opposite. I try to shoot very flat looking images and then color time the shots in post. Since Macrosystem has been weak in the color grading area....it has forced me to time my shots in other programs and then bring them into the Cassie to assemble the final project.

Up until this past month I have been using Adobe After Effects to do color correction. A couple of weeks ago I invested in Adobe Speedgrade for the post color work.

If Macrosystem will bring a strong color timing tool to the Casablanca, It would sure be nice. The roundtripping from Adobe products to the Cassie is getting a bit tiresome. We should not have to to all of the "back-and-Forth".

My two cents....from The Last Frontier

I am one of the biggest advocates & users of the great Casablanca since day 1 (1996). I am based near Dallas, TX USA.

1. I produce promotional marketing videos ,TV ads, and documentaries as well as corporate events & other commercial level video production. I am receiving clients that need spots produced for major market outlets. For this reason, I would really like to see the ability to not only import, but edit & export to the broadcast standard codec: HD 4:2:2 MPEG at 50 Mbps to MXF. Sony just released a new HD cam with this codec ( PMW-200). Perhaps it could be scalable from 20-100 depending on your needs. This codec is the broadcast standard requirement for any long form programming both in the US. & Europe.

2. Another emerging technology is 4K resolution. This is slowly but surely making it's way up the production ladder and will be as popular as HD in the future. Bring on the 4K for Casablanca.

3. For time sake, I would like to be able to export an edited storyboard without having to render every single frame of video; only the effects & transitions etc. when exporting via USB or firewire.

4. A Bogart version of CB paint, but with a much easier GUI. Perhaps a really beefed up Akaba program.

5. I would like to see a high resolution "Zoom" effect where you could crop a video image clip without quality degradation. I carefully use this effect for slight animating of video clips to create a camera zoom effect on product promos etc.

6. My company frequently shoots on location & same day edits & it would be nice if Macrosystem will design an "I-Pad" sized portable touch screen Casablanca with a built-in high resolution screen.

7. I produce wedding videos from time to time & would like to see more filters like softening & an improved "Ghost" filter than we currently have. Also, more image processing control on the effect "Control Image" where you could designate a particular screen area to make adjustments.

8. Solid State Internal Hard Drive System. These new technology hard drives do not have any moving parts & I would think they should last much longer & be more reliable.

I know with Linux, all of the above is very possible. Thank you for considering R & D on these items for future Bogart systems.
