Back up hard drive.

Post by RonaldPawlak »

I am at the turn point of purchasing store and share, the new update software for chaptering in HD, plus changing hard drives to an Blu Ray Burner.

Right now I have some HD footage on the drive, I would like to back up in Hd format only.

I tried to back up the HD footage on a GV-HD700/1 cassette rocorder by fire wire but it doesn't work. It works fine in SD. I don't want to loose this footage because it took me two months of shooting in the cold, windy, rainy, weather.

I tried to store it on a thumb drive and a regular DVD, but have no way to check if it's on the storage devices. I want to make sure it's there, don't know how to check if it is.

What would be the best way to store HD footage and on what format, for loading the HD footage back again when I get the Blu Ray burner?

Sooooo! if I do a full install of the new software update and I recall the back up, it will be there? Really? I thought a new full software update wipes everything off the hard drive. Where is it hiding until I recall it?

Hello Ronald,

I would say the ideal choice for this job would be Bogart HD Backup. This enables you to backup or archive whatever and all you have going in your 30 project folders onto an External Hard Drive.

You should be able to export your HD footage out to an HDV camera or deck via firewire from the Finish menu in an HD project but this other software method allows you to archive all projects at once and not only all footage in the Scene Bin but also whatever work in progress you have in the Storyboard. You will find a tutorial on this product on my website here: http://www.casablancaexpert.com/articles/20090909

Hope that helps!

Chet

The Bogart HD Backup saves all your project data, not the OS or software, onto an external HDD as file data. When you restore it brings back all projects you have archived. The external HDD is not affected by a clean (destructive) install of the OS -- as long as you keep that external HDD safe ;)
