SE 7 Cut Recognition Error - still no solution

Hi Fellow Editors,

Although Tim K. responded to my previous posting on this problem I have not arrived at a solution. His suggestion was that I may have a corrupt OS. It seemed to be a succesful clean install of SE 7.0. I'll try Renommee Support via email (again), but in the meantime I'd like responses from anyone who is aware of this problem:

HDV Downconvert at the camera; Canon XH A1 and HV 20 both used in test. Reno + : SYSTEM SETTINGS > ADDITIONAL SETTINGS > CUT RECOGNITION > TIME. Project Setting is, of course, 16:9 Anamorphic. Record footage continuously, then AUTO SPLIT. Multiple scenes appear in the bin. So far - so good... until trimming reveals that EVERY SCENE resulting from the split begins with exactly 2 frames from the end of the previous scene. In other words, there is a "lag" in the AUTO SPLIT.

Any more ideas? Tim? Lou? Chet? Beachy?

Thanks from Robert in Granite Bay, CA. :D :D

Are you reviewing your tape at times? The TC could be corrupted and not going back to the original spot on the tape thus a few frames off.
If you are doing so, experiment with some backyard "footage" and try the below. Do not review your tape.

CANON CAMERA: Use swap frame

CUT RECOGNITION>TIME

PLAY-TIMCODE>ORIGINAL

HDV FIELD ORDER>SWAPPED

Thanks, Lou, but I never stop the recording process to review tape. I've tried your suggested test and things got worse - I'll explain that in a minute. First, I have 2 questions:

1) SYSTEM SETTINGS > HDV FIELD ORDER
Isn't it true that this command has no effect on a project for which you've already downconverted at the camera?

2) SYSTEM SETTINGS > PLAY-TIMECODE:
Doesn't this only affect playback? In other words, can't you theoretically switch back and forth between CASABLANCA and ORIGINAL-DV without affecting what has already been recorded?

Anyway, I think my gremlin is in the OS. The one-hour scene I already recorded days ago will not even auto-split at all now, even after putting SYSTEM SETTINGS back where they were before AND after a re-boot. I get the "No cut infos found" message. I guess I'll call Boulder, Colorado in the morning and ask for a new SE 7.x disc for a re-install.

SYSTEM SETTINGS > HDV FIELD ORDER....My error. I was thinking of a HDV project and picking at straws at the same time. Sounds like a full install will do the trick. You can download a new OS on the MSUS site.
